This swimsuit for apple shape?

Anonymous
I'm a size 14/16. Large bust. Carry weight in the stomach. I'll be at a beach location for a week and a half in December and need a couple of new pieces.

Thoughts on this suit? http://www.landsend.com/pp/StylePage-397975_8M.html?amp;CM_MERCH=REC-_-LIPP-_-GGT-_-3-_-397975-_-397978

I'm on an extremely tight budget and cannot afford to buy a $100 miracle suit, or anything of the sort.

Any input from the fashionistas out there will be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I think that one will just make you look like a big ball of black apple.

If I were in your shoes, I'd do something like this:

Or maybe this, but I'm not loving the pattern. But the Empire waist might help break up the proportions of your body.

Also, go by World Market and find a really great sarong with nice bright colors to use as a cover up. It will help draw the eye down from the problem areas.

Good luck!

Hey there, OP here. I already have a tankini and feel like when I am doing water activities, I constnatly have to adjust it to support my gut and/or so my gut doesn't end up hanging out. I would be open to getting another that maybe fits better though.

As for the long one, eh... I'd rather just be hanging out in all my glory than wear a swim dress. In my experience, they aren't functional once you actually get in the water. We scuba, snorkel, swim around all day, etc.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, PP! I will definitely be heading over to World Market for a sarong.

PP here. Ok. So you don't like swimdresses, I can understand that. Would be great if you could find a one piece with some side rusching or maybe a pattern on top to cut up your shape a bit. Something like this, but not a dress.

OP here again. You are right in that empire waists are usually flattering on me. How to get that effect in a swimsuit without going the swimdress route is a good question! I like the Lane Bryant top you posted.

What about something like this? I'm torn between thinking this could be flattering, and thinking it would make me look like a big round, old ball. http://www.womanwithin.com/clothing/Swim-365-ruffled-swimsuit.aspx?PfId=237499&DeptId=19842&ProductTypeId=1#pr-header-237499__1

Hmm. No. Step away from the ruffles.

I'm an apple shape too, and I find that an empire waist makes me just look pregnant, so I'm surprised to hear you say it works for you. I recommend a v-neck and rouching or some other detail at the waist.

Hi OP,

I am also a 14-16, not an apple shape though (some belly, some hips/thigh issues), and I liked these swim shorts at athleta: http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=54486&vid=1&pid=739776
with this tankini top in long:
http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=62806&vid=1&pid=841420&scid=841420012

did not hang out of tank top. I really like the shorts (they have a liner panty, so they are a bathing suit bottom). My style is more sporty than flouncy, and they gave me a bit of extra coverage without major drag in the water that you get with a skirt.

Good luck!

How about something like this? (Maybe not this color, though.)

Not the PP, but it looks like the Lane Bryant one is a whole one-piece suit with attached bottom, not just a top. And so cute I may have to get it myself!

just throwing this out there, they don't have much under $75 but they are cute suits if you like a retro-mod look:

http://www.modcloth.com/shop/swimwear#?price=44,107&sort=newest&page=1&size=12

FWIW, I'm an apple too and I find that a one-piece suit with ruching around the waist really helps "create" a waist for me. I didn't htink your first pick was that bad though and you can't beat $30 for a swimsuit from Lands End if you like it.

I'm an apple shape and this swimsuit works great for me:

I have it in a teal color.

It looks good on it's own, but I like to be a little more covered up so I pair it with swim shorts.

Yeah, the lane bryant one was so cute it made me almost wish I were plus size!! I'd go with that one, OP. I think its a winner.

I have this suit as well and I am exactly the same shape/size as the OP. Get this suit. It is great.
