I have had a lot of nausea so far and my appetite has also gone back and forth. I am either not hungry at all or ravenous. Last night I was at a function and pigged out on chips, salsa and guacamole, so I didn't think twice about not eating a "real dinner" when I got home. Looking back I probably could have eaten more, but I wasn't overly *hungry* b/c of the chips so I just left it alone and went to bed. For whatever reason, I woke up about fifteen times throughout the night with the worst morning sickness I've had yet. I didn't ACTUALLY throw up, but it was constantly that feeling of "I'm about to throw up" complete with gagging. It was horrible. I still felt badly in the morning, though not as bad, and now I feel ok after eating part of a muffin.
Basically, I'm trying to figure out what brought this on so I can prevent it from happening again. Do I need to be totally full when I go to sleep? |
Same thing happened to me last night. I went for cereal because I just wasn't starving and already feeling nauseous. When I was in bed around 10:30, I thought I was going to puke and had to throw several crackers down. For me, it was probably not eating a full meal and taking my prenatal right before bed without a full stomach. Lesson learned. |
My nausea/vomiting were definitely exacerbated by having an empty stomach. I don't know that you need a full stomach right before bed, but I always made a point to eat a substantial dinner. I also kept a snack by my bed (crackers, pb sandwich, pretzels) so I could eat in the middle of the night if I woke up starving, which helped reduce the nausea. Hang in there! |
During the first trimester I always tried to eat as much as I could stomach before going to bed (thankfully heartburn wasn't an issue then). I also kept granola bars in my night stand and would wake up in the middle of the night and eat it without opening my eyes and go right back to sleep. This helped to get me through the night. I would also try to eat a snack before getting out of bed and moving too much to get something in my stomach to start the day out less nauseous. It really helped to keep something in my stomach. |
I felt sick only when I had low blood sugar, so I tried to eat on a regular schedule |
The thing that will help prevent nauseau is getting enough protein...your dinner of chips, guac, etc...didn't have much of that so try and focus on protein even though it's probably not that appealing. |
Take heart that that nausea peaks at 12 weeks. Maybe you've just passed humpweek?
FYI - I'm 9 weeks and my nausea/malaise is creeping upwards. Ugh. My friends with kids all say that it all gets much, much better in month 4. Good luck! |
