The attack on Iran was a pretty good demonstration to China about what the US can do. 125 planes in the air on the other side of the planet. Two aircraft carrier groups. A third on the way. Submarines launching tomahawks. And seven undetected B-2 bombers that were able to do as they wish. And this was very restrained. Air defense has no answer to any of this. When it comes to conventional warfare, the US has no peer.

I believe this little display will help stabilize things in the South China Sea. A Chinese invasion of Taiwan is unlikely in a world where the US is willing to throw around its overwhelming advantages in a conventional warfare scenario. We suck at overthrowing governments and nation building and insurgent warfare. But we can absolutely cripple any country in the world militarily - within a week.

The last time China fought was in 1979 in Vietnam. There is absolutely nobody in the People's Liberation Army that has any experience at all in modern warfare. None of their weapons systems have ever been tested in the real world.

So there are some people whispering that the Iran response was actually a show of force to China because they successfully fought against India via other surrogate, Pakistan last month.

The Chengdu J-10C fighter jets were reported to have performed strongly. These jets were credited with downing several Indian aircraft, including at least one French-made Rafale, though the exact number and types of Indian losses remain disputed. The J-10C, a 4.5-generation multirole fighter, is equipped with advanced radar, electronic warfare systems, and the PL-15E long-range air-to-air missile, which was noted for its effectiveness in beyond-visual-range combat.
