Wherever we started, we must still move forward. Holding all nations to the same standards on human rights is perfectly reasonable. No one is entitled to their era of genocide, slavery or colonialism no matter what happened in the past. Oppressed people have rights, and calls for those rights are legitimate on that basis alone, not because of the moral authority of nations. Other nations should feel free to turn the spotlight back on us where we are lacking. Holding all developed nations to the same standards for climate is also reasonable. Emissions are a function of technology. China and other nations have the same access to this technology. They should be held, on a per capita basis, to the same standards. The same is true for child labor. Chinese no longer face extreme poverty, as defined by the World Bank. Child labor is reasonable among people experiencing extreme poverty, but they no longer qualify. Furthermore, China has access to competitive manufacturing technologies, so it does not need to use child labor to produce products at market competitive prices. |
That this has to even be stated? |
Well THAT certainly was an effective way of getting the ChiCom trolls to out themselves!!!! That worked even better than mentioning the Tiananmen Square massacre! Which they’d be obligated to deny happening. |
Slow day at your university’s Confucius Institure, OP?

What is your point? Confucian philosophy is just a way of ethics that guide people’s relationship with others. You just sound confused. It’s adoption is more pronounced in places like Korea and in Japan. |
The worst about Chinese regime is that it is not communism, it is state capitalism plus dictatorship. |
Vietnam as well. But let’s face it, Confucius Institutes are not about the philosophy but rather promoting Communist China. For much of its existence Red China was intent on stamping out Confucian values as backward and oppressive to the masses. The Cultural Revolution was a particularly brutal time for those who held to the philosophy. |
South Korea and Japan are Confucius societies. No one has ever accused these countries of being communists. Confucious was born before Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. That’s more than 2000 years before Karl Marx. It has nothing to do with communism. If anything, it’s a very conservative philosophy as it tends to be law and order. |
This exactly. 18:24 seems to be a victim of Chinese Communist propaganda, as are many college students. Why even send your child to one of these colleges just to get radicalized? |
This exactly. 18:35 seems to be a victim of Trumpian propaganda, as are many college students. Why even send your child to one of these colleges just to become another Trump (without his power and money)? |
I’m not sure what your point is. The stated goal of the Cultural Revolution was to destroy traditional Chinese society and customs and philosophy and impose Maoism on the population. Even Confucius’ cemetery was intentionally desecrated and destroyed during this period of millions of deaths. Mao though has been thoroughly discredited and consigned to the ash heap of history only to be replaced by tyrants now insidiously promoting “Xi Jinping thought”. While Communist China has perverted and twisted Confucianism, the Republic of China has well preserved the ancient teaching and I would recommend to all with serious interest in the philosophy to travel this country for first hand study. |
We enrich China every nanosecond of the day with our purchases. And we make excuses why we have to. |
What is the latest on Hong Kong? |
It’s good to see the China trolls have overtaken the Russian troll here. First Covid, and now blogging. Where will it end? |
Don’t forget too that when Congress moves to hold Communist China accountable for genocide and repression, corporate America actively lobbies to stop such efforts. |
