Why is the Foxhall Community Citizens Association scared of public school children?

Before the end of the month.

A decision on what? Whether MacArthur will be a middle or high school? The decision to build Foxhall is made.

Can they please evict Duke Ellington (which isn’t really a DCPS school), so that we can have our Western High School back?!

No.

But DCPS has two great properties ready for redevelopment, not too far away!

Isn't the old GDS campus being turned into a DCPS school?

Yes.

Was anyone at the parade? Did they show?

There were 2 or 3 people who were part of the parade and frankly looked like loonies. In contrast, Falun Gang were very professional. DCPS is going to have no problem proceeding with its plan, whatever the plan turns out to be.

they actually ... protested building an elementary school at a neighborhood 4th of July parade? Wow. And I thought it was bad when my neighborhood ANC came out swinging against a preschool ... People just are absolutely f'ing selfish tw*ts when it comes to development.

I used to sit stuck on the D5 or D6 trying to get through that area during GDS drop-off. It will be worse with an additional school.

I hope they do a serious traffic study and consider broader changes to help the area such as allowing a left turn from Arizona to Canal during rush hour.

A private school like GDS pulls kids from the entire metropolitan area. At a school like that 500 kids means 500 cars. And kids whose parents are paying $45K+ for elementary school aren't taking the bus, their parents -- or nanny or chauffeur -- are driving them. Foxhall elementary is going to be a neighborhood school, DCPS claims they can fill it entirely with kids living within 1.2 miles. A significant number will be able to walk to school.

Whatever gets built on MacArthur is going to have the same attendance boundaries as Hardy has now. It's pretty compact, maybe 2 miles at the outer reaches. DCPS middle and high schoolers get themselves to school for the most part, that's walkable or bikeable.

Private schools have a very different transportation profile from public schools.

They now have a website to spread their propaganda: savehardypark.com

Why? presumably most of the kids attending will be from the neighborhood. Just turn the trolley trail into a bike path and the kids and all walk and bike without impeding car traffic.

That site is embarrassing.

There are traffic issues everywhere in DC.

LOL, there’s a a Reddit thread on this now: https://www.reddit.com/r/washingtondc/comments/okjtbt/no_one_nimbys_like_the_foxhall/

Mary Cheh sent a letter to the neighborhood listservs on the issue: http://marycheh.com/two-new-proposed-schools-for-ward-3/

What happened with the Old Hardy lease extension should boil the blood of everyone in this city.

Excuse the newbie question but what is the one elementary school that is not overcrowded that she is referring to?

JFC, are you serious? The solution to too much traffic should be fewer schools than needed??
That isn't how it should work!
Too much traffic ----> more busses in the immediate term, more transit options in the long-term.
Congrats on even getting onto a D5 or D6, though. Haven't ever succeeded getting on a bus in or out of that neighborhood because of how infrequent they are, even at rush hour.
