I used to sit stuck on the D5 or D6 trying to get through that area during GDS drop-off. It will be worse with an additional school. I hope they do a serious traffic study and consider broader changes to help the area such as allowing a left turn from Arizona to Canal during rush hour.
A private school like GDS pulls kids from the entire metropolitan area. At a school like that 500 kids means 500 cars. And kids whose parents are paying $45K+ for elementary school aren't taking the bus, their parents -- or nanny or chauffeur -- are driving them. Foxhall elementary is going to be a neighborhood school, DCPS claims they can fill it entirely with kids living within 1.2 miles. A significant number will be able to walk to school. Whatever gets built on MacArthur is going to have the same attendance boundaries as Hardy has now. It's pretty compact, maybe 2 miles at the outer reaches. DCPS middle and high schoolers get themselves to school for the most part, that's walkable or bikeable. Private schools have a very different transportation profile from public schools.
