For in state sure….. can never compare anything to instate. OOS UMD is $41k just tuition. As discussed in the other thread you can do St Andrews for $50k (dollars) including room and board. From an OOS perspective, Sta all the away. For instate, sure big state Us will always have a cost advantage. UMD |

If you are talking about just name and reputation McGill although with special circumstances I can see Bernard being as prestigious esp if you call Bernard Columbia |
Why are we even talking about this. This is NOT what the OP asked….. |
| My husband works for a large F500 tech company. His degree is from Georgetown and he's working for someone who has her degree from McGill. He knows a few others across other companies who are senior with McGill degrees and they are very well regarded. |
| Thank you! Any more thoughts about McGill vs Barnard? Like, would a student be making a mistake to choose McGill over Barnard? Or VisaVersa? Any other thoughts appreciated. |
I’m assuming this PP has her own question. I’m always a little shocked at the poor critical thinking and reading comprehension skills of so many posters on this board. … absolutely obsessing over college brands… the irony |
| Would be interest in thoughts ans experiences too as we are choosing between McGill & Barnard as well. |

It's naive to think that any foreign university, apart from Oxbridge, will likely resonate strongly with the average U.S. employer, no matter how good those schools may be. They just generally lack name recognition here, and that is very likely to result in a competitive disadvantage when applying for jobs alongside candidates from schools which are better known in the U.S. Yes, some employers may be familiar with some foreign schools, and may even think highly of them, but I strongly suspect that will be a minority position.
Caveat emptor. |
| Other thoughts? |
I don’t necessarily think that’s accurate. There are a few schools that pretty much every educated person in urban areas will know, and certainly every HR department. McGill is one of them- over UT for some reason even though any Canadian will tell you UT is a harder admit. McGill has stronger name recognition than lots of strong SLAC and other US schools as well |
McGill will be more rigorous/harder but both are great |
