Also, would someone who is better at writing about the economy start a new thread about this news? It feels like it deserves its own thread. |
Getting closer but can expedite understanding if you 1. Teach people the difference and relationship between the economy & the market exchange. 2. Teach people how to grow ans strengthen both 3. KISS with relevant examples 2000-2020, laid over party position and specific actions that created/drove economic behavior |
At a certain point, this falls on the corporate owned media, which always makes out like bandits under GOP governments (not that they have done too poorly under anyone in the last 40 years). They truly create narratives; look at the astonishing number of times that they have claimed “Trump is striking a new tone.” He’s never struck a new tone, he’s never been presidential. They create a similar sort of narrative around the economy. They never really address how the economy has, especially since the 80s, left middle class and poorer people in the dust. They parrot the GOP’s talking points about Democratic spending but never really talk about the giveaways conducted by the GOP, nor do they ever address the wildly out of control defense budget. |
If the economy is in shambles, the usual playbook is for the Republicans to punt to the Democrats to fix it, then when things are looking good again, they take over, steal the profits, and destroy the gains. Rinse, repeat.
Looks like they'll be handing this mess back to the Dems soon. |

Largest *ever* contraction of GDP in Q2. We can’t wait for Biden and a new team. Congress must act now to stabilize us. |
Do you see the Republicans in Congress suddenly acting in the interests of average Americans? |
While the left and China continues to push our economy into recession, jobless claims were down this week from consensus. |
Wow. Only 1.2 new unemployment claims last week. I'm so glad we have Trump in office to save us from "the left" and to keep us from falling into a recession. \s |
We all know that the left has been responsible for policies enacted during the Trump administration. |
For those too stupid to look it up, the claims were 1.18 million... rounding doesn't compute on the left.
Meanwhile the left blames everyone except themselves and China |
Does China control our country? Does China force Trump to deny the threat of coronavirus EVEN NOW? Did Democrats? Did China shutdown the schools in my red state? We aren't blind. We know damn well which part of this is China's fault...and which part is Trump's. |
Oh, it was exactly 1.18 million? Or are you rounding? To what accuracy? Do you even know or are you just deadset on insulting the "left" for every made up offense you can think of? |
Did you miss the part where Trump put decisions in the hands of state governors and local officials? Might as well put Gavin Newsome in there for CA. He shares some of the blame too you know. |
Trump put the decisions in the hands of state and local leaders...but didn't give them access to any of the vast federal resources to help them. My federal taxes are about 3x what I pay in state tax, property tax and sales tax COMBINED. The CDC didn't even issue school reopening guidance until the end of March. In my red state schools open the first week of August. |
By the time trump did that, he had already failed at 1) shutting down the boarders 2) developing a testing protocol and 3) procuring PPE and other supplies, while pitting the states against each other. Way to send the governors into a war, fending for themselves, rather than using the combined procurement power of the Federal Government. |
