My house, my rules. I’m not keeping some toy I hate (whether junk or a video game) just because my kids might like it. There’s lots of stuff they want that they don’t get because it isn’t good for them or for me. |
Lol yep to the bolded. Let the relatives get whatever gifts you would have given, then you as the parents can try explaining that the family's next trip out for ice cream or to some bounce house is now their "Christmas gift". ![]() |

Who asks for gifts???? If I suggest an experience instead of a toy, it’s because you asked me. Don’t ask the question if you don’t really want an answer. |
+1. Christmas has gotten over the top. When relatives ask for ideas, I try to think of 1-2 toys/books/clothes my kids would like. They’re young and IMO that is plenty. When that isn’t enough and they keep demanding for more ideas (hello MIL) then sure I’ll include more experience type ideas like the zoo, aquarium, etc. Don’t like it, then don’t ask in the first place. Now that our niece and nephew are teenagers, they’re usually trying to save up for something bigger and would prefer gift cards or cash. That doesnt bother be at all. They also really like experience gifts from their parents/grandparents (e.g., a major league sports game). |
It’s a amazing to me none of these PPs appear to have a trash service. Open lid pop broken/ unwanted toy in. Take to curb. Problem solved.
Someone who bought you a gift from $5 below is not going to give $$ to your 539. Lol. |
This is exactly where grandparents shop. Not realizing you don’t have room for these. |
OMG that sand pit thing. Noooooooo |
Man I loved the hell out of that doctor kit |
SIL used to buy my DDs clothes from Kohl’s dollar days. Not
Wearing that. The postage cost more. |
Our planet is a cesspool of trash already. |
If you don’t want to be told what to give, don’t ask! Just give the gift you want to give. |
+1. So simple. If you are given lists without asking for them, that’s rude regardless. So just ignore and get what you want. |
It is appreciated and we thank them. And it goes straight to the donation pile. They wear these clothes when they have to and we would rather donate them to children who may use them more than once. They already own their khakis and dress clothes. They don’t need relatives picking out more. |
If they get them as gifts, you don't need to buy them. Sounds like you are looking for an excuse. Let them wear them, even once then donate them. You sound really crappy. |
