Who asks for gifts???? If I suggest an experience instead of a toy, it’s because you asked me. Don’t ask the question if you don’t really want an answer.
+1. Christmas has gotten over the top. When relatives ask for ideas, I try to think of 1-2 toys/books/clothes my kids would like. They’re young and IMO that is plenty. When that isn’t enough and they keep demanding for more ideas (hello MIL) then sure I’ll include more experience type ideas like the zoo, aquarium, etc. Don’t like it, then don’t ask in the first place. Now that our niece and nephew are teenagers, they’re usually trying to save up for something bigger and would prefer gift cards or cash. That doesnt bother be at all. They also really like experience gifts from their parents/grandparents (e.g., a major league sports game).
