No, it's about attending a school with kids who don't give a crap about school, don't do their share of group projects, misbehave in class while dragging the rest of the class down, and, best cast scenario, just stare at their phones all day long. Our relative went to middle school like that and after a semester his parents decided to switch to private, despite that being quite a financial stretch. FWIW, the kid went to a magnet in elementary, so that 'diverse' middle was quite a rude awakening. |

Ah yes -- of course. Only lower SES kids and POC do any of the things you mention above. |
I don't know how BoE is supposed to establish school boundaries that keep out kids who don't do share their share of group projects, misbehave, or stare at their phones. |
Nope, that's not how it works. Over capacity schools have issues that that the BOE need to address. You don't get a choice in school assignment. |
I think MCPS does need an outside consultant to study even regional boundaries because they are just crap at it. |
+1 especially since there are under capacity schools next to over capacity ones. Ridiculous that MCPS hasn't redrawn boundaries sooner. |
Agreed. And yet, these people are throwing temper tantrums like toddlers over the mere fact that they are STUDYING the boundaries. They're making these baseless proclamations about what will happen to their kids and their property values, without even having study results in front of them. Honestly, boundary studies should happen on a much more frequent basis, like they do in Loudoun County. |
Ridiculous? See what happens when MCPS just does a STUDY about the POSSIBILITIES for redrawing boundaries. No wonder they haven't done anything sooner. |
It's fking insane. These people are supposedly adults, but they're acting like 3 year olds. |
You do realize these are kids, right? Children. Human beings. There were plenty of kids who fit that mold in the W school I attended, and even then I was compassionate and aware enough to get that their lack of engagement wasn't because they were "bad," FFS. I would hope my kids have the empathy and integrity to see the whole person, while also maintaining high standards for themselves. I'd ask whether you have that little faith in your kids, but given your seeming inability to Get It, my guess is you rightfully don't have much faith in them. (And it's preposterous, these claims that the kids who are sooooo high-achieving are also mysteriously SO easily led astray by other kids who aren't like them in every conceivable way.) |
| I can't read 14 pages... is there or is there not video of the crazy parents that boo'd the speaker and all the other crazy antics. |
Indeed.. but it doesn't mean MCPS shouldn't redraw the boundaries. It should be done more frequently to keep up with changing enrollment figures. |
There is. On Twitter. |
Can you post a link? I can't find it on Twitter. |
