Why would you pay full freight to send your kid to Middlebury?

How so? From what I can tell, there are only two albums on this thread, neither of whom have posted for a while or said anything cringe worthy. I think it’s the bitter parents whose kids didn’t get in and the social justice psycho who are cringy.

+3. It seems as though the people that either couldn’t get in and/or couldn’t pay full tuition have all chimed in with a lot of negativity. Whatever.....par for the course here at DCUM.

No, it is alums or people with kids in Middleburry defending the cost they are paying. It is one person coming on here night and day saying dummy, moron, mommy, stupid, etc... I am just embarrassed for how they defend their school by lashing out this way or accuse anti ne who doesn’t like the school or wouldn’t pay full price, a person who was rejected. That seems so strange. I have a sophomore at GT and junior now looking at SLAC’s. This is honestly the only reason I know the school. Because it is a top SLAC when we started looking. So I click on this thread and it is just awful all the way around. There is no purpose to it. No one has really said why IT IS worth it. Why go to this school if you aren’t filthy rich. And those that say it is not worth it are met with some nut job. So I just the thread is useless and hope he locks it.

Ok, but how do you justify paying $300k for any school? It’s weird that Middlebury is being singled out when there are so many expensive schools out there, most of which are considered to not be as good as Middlebury. I know someone who majored in Welsh at Harvard, how do you justify that?

The defenders are trying to make the point that it is a very good school, is hard to get into, is considered prestigious in high-prestige industries and has a good alumni network. The people demeaning the school don’t seem to know what they are talking about.

Furthermore, I don’t get the logic behind the argument that it is white privilege to go to an expensive school and major in something that doesn’t lead to a high paying job. I would think you SJW would applaud rich kids who go to college wanting to make the world a better place rather than heading to Wall st or a law firm. But I guess you have your narrative and God forbid anyone get in the way of that.

I am the PP. I guess people who are interested in SLAC's, like my daughter, are looking for valid reasons. Actual stories, why they think it is a better school. The professors, the majors offered, quick employment? This thread is about Middlebury so I don't think anyone needs to compare other schools. I have read plenty of other posts lately on here from other SLAC's. They aren't immature like this. I am not sure why, but it seems that no one has any decent reasons why they love this school and what it has done for them or their child. It is just a bunch of attacks.

Middlebury is worth it because the students from Midd come from educated families that maybe discuss how the world economy works over dinner and have the fit and finish of knowing how to behave and engage in social and business functions.

There must not be any. It’s settled then. You can look elsewhere.

I don’t think anyone here talking about the school has any idea. They are sure doing their best to keep it the way they see it too.

Why would you send your child to a preppy, white SLAC near the Canadian border?

23% of students come from families in the top 1%. Meanwhile, the median
income for alumni at age 34 is a paltry $62K. How much value are you getting out of that $55K/year tuition? Obviously they are known for teaching and language programs, but does the tuition, isolation and limited career earnings potential justify the exorbitant cost?

The real reason to send a kid to a program like that is that it’s a great experience.

It has no clear financial value. People who want to maximize return on investment would probably be better off with mutual funds than children. If they get stuck with children, maybe they could get a good ROI by selling the organs to dealers in China.

+1 similar to pay it 25k to send your kid to summer camp. It's purely for the experience, no real value.
