Why would you pay full freight to send your kid to Middlebury?

Obviously the only reason you would pay full freight to attend Middlebury is that you're not as smart as OP. That much we can all agree on, right?

In this thread: A bunch of bored middle class tiger parents who've never even stepped foot on any of these campuses they pretend to be experts on. Why are so many of you obsessed with this crap? It's like the college confidential yentas who have adult children, yet still post the same crap over and over for 10 and 20 years. Find a freakin hobby. There must be something more fulfilling than analyzing how the rich spend their money, and how rich send their kids to rich private schools so they mix with rich peers.

I don’t disagree but what’s your excuse for being here?

Middlebury College admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 15%. Half the applicants admitted to Middlebury College have an SAT score between 1360 and 1530 or an ACT score of 32 and 34.

This year, Middleburry acceptance is in single digit. Clearly, its a top choice for smart kids, and prestigious parents, even if its full frieght.

Why are the top 4 posts currently all related to middlebury? It’s a mildly average lac with not much interesting going on- are you middle class-wealthy? Do you like snow/winter sports? Do you enjoy small classes and do you want to be in a small town for college? It’s probably a good fit.

….except hearing wide array of viewpoints, of course.

Rice is a great school, don't get me wrong, but geography plays a role in perceptions.

This is absolutely true. In the Northeast, everyone who knows about higher education knows that Midd is selective and academically rigorous. They know where it ranks.

Many people would have to double check where Rice ranks.

Ridiculous. The equivalent of saying NYU is more prestigious than UCLA, Berkeley, Michigan, or Chicago because of location.

There are no equivalents. Some schools have a universally known, national reputation. Others less so. UCLA, Berkeley, and U Chicago have cache on the east coast. Michigan does not, but it's known as a solid school.

Many Yankees have a bias against Texas.

True, but in Michigan we know the difference between cache and cachet.

Where did you see the single digit?

The original post was old. I don’t know why someone reopened it, but OP, did your kid go and if so, more importantly, are they making money?
