Probably came as a revelation during the same trance in which this was written. Seems like PP was at the keyboard during a pretty serious medical event. |
This PP does not seem to know about the existence of the MS magnet programs for the upcounty (Clarksburg, Damascus, Gaithersburg, Magruder, Northwest, Poolesville, Quince Orchard, Seneca Valley, Watkins Mill clusters) at Roberto Clemente MS and Martin Luther King Jr. MS. |
Wasn't there going to be a lawsuit? I kept reading on DCUM that there was going to be a slam-dunk lawsuit. What happened to that lawsuit? I haven't heard anything about it. |

MCPS has not released the Magnet test scores but the state does provide PARCC scores for the county. Here are the grade 5 English and math results for students who “exceeded expectations “

| Just another loopy conspiracy theories with zero supporting evidence. |
Although PARC is unrelated to magnet selection, it clearly demonstrates that PARC has a serious cultural bias. |
| PARC is a state-mandated test that measures minimal competency. Results are shown as a percentage of students who show that competency as in pass or fail. It is hardly a measure of giftedness. |
It does measure competence which is also required to succeed in a rigorous Magnet program. The number of students who “exceed expectations “ is relatively low (around 10%) so it cannot be a super easy test. |
Exactly, PARC measures minimal competence and is scored as pass or fail. This is hardly a measure of giftedness, nor an issue for the top 1% of students in the county who attend the magnets. |
And, as with many conspiracy theories, the absence of any supporting evidence is just further proof that the conspiracy theory is correct... |
True but it does give a sense of how many children have the basic skill set. It is too bad MCPS is not providing Magnet test results this year for the first time. That would be more helpful |
Is that you Donald?
|
True, nobody with any knowledge of PARC believes a passing score relates to giftedness. If you believe this kind of nonsense, you may as well be comparing hat sizes. |
MCPS has never provided magnet test results, as far as I know, aside from median score of admitted students. |
It is the only test result made available to the public for grade 5. At a minimum you can think of “exceeding expectations “ as the bare minimum level of proficiency required for a middle school magnet. Looks like only 10% approximately of Grade 5 meet this admittedly low bar |
