My 18 mo child screamed from San Fran to Dulles. We did everything we could to comfort him. People were probably annoyed, but acted sympathetic. We didn’t let him climb around though.
Every flight prior he had slept and generally been an angel. We had toys, snacks, books, everything he could need. |
Two separate issues here: 1. Kid's behavior obviously not acceptable on a plane. 2. Not appropriate to publicly distribute videos of other people's children without permission. |
You do not need permission if it is a public space. There is no “right to privacy” in public. |
You're confusing legality with propriety. It's not illegal, but it's not the right thing to do. |
I think they lost that when they let the kid be a monster. |
Two wrongs don't make a right. Agreed that kid's/parent's behavior was unacceptable. Also unacceptable to globally humiliate/excoriate a little kid. I'd hope that we can all agree on both points. |
You obviously don't have a kid or you're a jerk or both. |
DP... this is partly why there are so many out of control kids. No one willing to scold them. Adults can't stand up to a toddler now when the toddler is doing something wrong because it might hurt their feelings? The expectations Americans have their childrens' behavior is pathetically low. --signed a parent of two children who have flown with them across the atlantic a few times. |
She was in the wrong, but this is nothing like what the thread is about. The baby on this plane was not crying; the toddler on the German flight was screaming for 8 hours running up and down the aisle. The woman screamed at the baby; people are saying someone should've told the mother to control her child. I don't think most people are saying that someone should've yelled at the mother or toddler, though I'm betting some people strongly had the desire to. Completely different situation. |
^sorry, I obviously didn't read your post well. I thought you were saying that people shouldn't scold the child. |
I think the video should have been posted and people who subject others to that b.s. should be called out for it. |
Absolutely agree. And for 8 hours! |
Again, it's a public space. The video is necessary - otherwise people can deny it, even with a plane full of eyewitnesses. United would probably still be pulling crap if it weren't for that video of that bloodied doctor. |
| How do we know what actually happened? It was a 4 minute video, and account of just one man. I highly doubt that the child screamed for the entire 8 hours. The guy started filming before the plane took off, shows the lack of any empathy and sensitivity on his part. |
| Another news source posted the child is disabled. But awesome you folks calling a 3-year old child with autism a monster. |
