Turn Gunston into a HS?

I think parents aren't urging more activity on a new high school partly because they can't believe their kid is ever going to be in high school. But also, a lot of the agitation comes from North Arlington, which managed to get its way on moving HB and creating a neighborhood school that they have to drive to. I suspect that they are expecting a similar level of accommodation when it's time for high school and they aren't thinking about the fact that APS is just plain out of land.

Hello have you been sleeping? We are going to have more than 2600 extra HS students even with additions etc. What do you think we should do? Also I live on the same street as hb woodlawn now so I guess we'd be sending our kids there and wslking to it. BTW never involved in that discussion always just figured we'd take the bus to swanson. My oldest is still in preschool. Just learned about all of this recently. But after hearing about the huge overcrowding I think the county needs to do spend the money across the majority of aps students, not just 775 at hb.

They are not out of land. Have you not seen the reference to the presentation by school bd where it lists VHC carlin springs?

High school overcrowding is an issue for the entire county. While WL will be the most overcrowded, Wakefield is not far behind.

My kids are in high school and 8th grade, so strictly speaking I have no dog in this fight. But as a citizen I care very much about education and believe it is our duty to adequately and appropriately educate the young people in our community. It makes me crazy that more people aren't paying attention to this.

Thanks, 22:04. At least one of the SB members won't have a dog in this fight when the sh*t hits the fan and she doesn't seem to care about quality education for all. It makes me sick.

Does anyone out there have any info about the committee they were talking about at the last joint session on 5/24 where they would look into the other properties (i.e. Buck, Ed Center and VHC/Carlin Springs)? Also, I thought one CB member (was it Fisette) asked the SB to come back w/ more info about Madison Center?

That is not APS land. You cannot assume the county will continue to give APS everything it asks for.

I hardly think asking that Arlington students have a seat in a building, during traditional hours, is demanding.

Define "Arlington students".

Parents own $1.5 million-plus SFHs? I wholeheartedly agree.

Living in some APAH property somewhere? Getting the Arlington housing grant? If I were in charge, I'd say you better make sure your alarm clock works and you can wake yourself up at 4:00 AM. Or you better remember to bundle up when you walk home at 11:30 PM on a January night from your sophomore Algebra I class.

Please take your anti-AH screed elsewhere. We are talking here about schools. On the schools board.

At least they didn't pretend to be playing golf with Libby Garvey this time.

That's an extreme view. That because APS won't build a 4th high school, our kids have no choice but to resort to going to high school in two shifts. No one in APS is suggesting that. Board members aren't even into that. Going to high school in two shifts only became an option because people suggested it in the first place. It won't happen.
