Worried about son's circumcision

Anonymous
I figured this was just what you did. Only adjustment was to get some lotion to help numb it that I was told to put on before. But then they had us wait eons so I don't know how effective it was in the end. Got it done at my OBGYN since he was in Nicu For a bit.

Seeing him howl afterward I could have never gone through with it again if I had had another boy.

I love how these are always women who are so bent out of shape over it.

We brought our son home the morning after it was done, and he was fine. He didn't cry every time he peed. I kept it cover in Vaseline and it was healed in no time. I've seen how poorly young boys care for themselves. Uncirced boys must be a putrid disaster.

"they look like slimy sea creatures...I've don't know one women who wants a guy with foreskin" You all sound like you have the minds of a 5 year old.

They do look a little frightening sliding in and out of the foreskin... maybe more like a slimy turtle than a mollusk.

OP -- use LOTS of vaseline inside a gauze and wrap it around his penis. You don't want the penis actually touching the gauze, only vaseline. Do this for every diaper change. Vaseline, gauze around the penis, then the diaper. It'll heal in about a week.

OH please, if you surveyed a group of random women (in the US) at least 80 percent or more would say they prefer a circumcised penis. Why not do a random poll if you don't believe me? Not on DCUM because there are women here dying to defend their choice (which clearly they weren't completely confident about or else they wouldn't be so active on here trying to convince people otherwise).

Oh, lord, another "there is no place outside of America!" person. And actually, you're wrong, it would probably depend where (it is much less common in some areas than others) and also, please make sure you are only including people who have had sex with both types. Your survey is useless if people haven't actually experienced it first hand before formulating an opinion.

Also, you're vapid and shallow and obviously you aren't so sure of your decision either or you wouldn't be here whining either.

No, the difference is the anti-circ people feel it is cruel and unjust and that is why they speak up.

The pro-circ people just have their feelings hurt.

My youngest of two boys had the plastibell method and hardly made a sound, my oldest son had his done with the gomco clamp and he screamed bloody murder. Seems the gomco is very painful compared to the plastibell, both of my boys had no pain relief either. He should be fine after week 2.

He was done with the gomco clamp. I could choose that or the plastic bell, I told the doctor use whatever is more safe. I hope thats not true about the gomco being more painful

Don't worry, I've seen both and they both look horrifically painful.

Just listen to the screaming... It's inhumane.

Here is a good critique of the latest AAP statement, and an analysis of the alleged benefits of circumcision, by an international panel of medical professionals:

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2013/03/12/peds.2012-2896.full.pdf+html

Also, please note that not even the AAP thought the benefits were large enough to warrant recommending circumcision as a routine procedure for all newborn boys. Don't believe it? Look it up, but read the whole statement, not just the abstract or the press reports, which conveniently omit that part.

Lastly, the fact that almost nobody circumcises in Europe unless it's for religious reasons, yet Europeans actually have lower numbers of STDs, should make any thinking person suspicious what the real reasons for the procedure's popularity in the US are.

Most women I know prefer a penis that is attached to a smart, kind man who is great in bed. Foreskin or lack of it doesn't rank high on the priority list.

+1. Most of the people who supposedly care are really young women who haven't really dated much, or women who married the first guy they slept with.

+1. And why would anyone base their decision whether or not to do unnecessary surgery on their newborn on the presumed preferences of future sexual partners? If we did the same with girls, there would be huge outrage.

And no, I'm not posting here because I am not completely confident about my decision not to circumcise my boys and need to defend it. I post here because I think doing unnecessary and painful surgery on non-consenting newborns for spurious "medical reasons" is appalling.

Thank you! I saw this article before and have been trying to find it again for awhile.
