By 16, I was an incredibly reckless driver. I stayed that way until at least 25. My problem wasn't drinking and driving, but speed. Teens feel invincible.

It is possible that this tragedy could have occurred even without alcohol.

I agree with this. I was also an incredibly reckless drive until about age 25. Yes, teens feel invincible. Have no idea what a good solution is.

One size never fits all, but at the very least, parents need to start being more responsible.

Have the hosting parents been charged yet?

It is literally impossible to get to a job, go on a date, or go to friends' houses without walking, riding a bike, or driving a car. And driving a car is safer than riding a bike 10 miles on a county road to a friends house on Saturday night.

Here's a newsflash- not everybody lives the life YOU live.

You failed to answer part of my question- how old are your kids?

Too bad you chose a big house and yard over your kids safety, guess you don't love them as much as I love mine.

Are you serious? You genuinely have no clue. Small Midwestern town. Again- your reality is not the same for everyone.

Small Midwestern towns tend to be walkable/bikeable, in my experience.

Um, no. Closest movie theater is 15 miles away. Some local jobs but son's job is 10 miles away. Friends live in the country, 10 miles away on unlit county roads. Your experience is not like mine at all.

Do we know that they were hosting a party? I can see a defense that these kids showed up drunk or with alcohol and were sent home.

This doesn't mean that your small Midwestern town isn't walkable/bikeable. It just means that the movie theater, your son's job, and the friends in the country are not in your small Midwestern town.

I heard today that the house where the party was hosted had been given citations for underage drinking previously. If that is in fact true, I hope the parents are charged.

For their sake, I hope that's not true.
...But if it is, Permissive Parents are
The Kiss of Death. Jail time is in order.
No more slap on the wrist with a fine. None.

I wasn't. I started at 15. But it is all very dependent on the kid and his/her personality. The friends I lost in high school and college? I lost like this. The friends who killed people in high school and college? They killed people like this. I hate it.

My plan for my kid is a particular local driving course that focuses on defensive driving. Then their skid course to learn how to manage the car out of skids. And then a refresher driving course after a year or two. And put them in the safest car I can afford. I don't mean giving them a car. I mean the car they have access to.

Regardless, I hope the judge makes an example out of these asshole idiots.

I bet they're cooking up a creative plea deal. Maybe that's why they haven't charged the hosting parents.

Why are a bunch of posts getting deleted?

In a recent interview, a police officer mentioned that no one was coming forward with any about the party, which has slowed the investigation.

A prominent Wootton student tweeted that he would always remember the two who died and in a show of sympathy he would drink and later pour a certain type of alcoholic beverage over their graves.

1.) There are no "prominent" high school students at Wooten. (For contrast and comparison, Malala Yousafzai is a prominent high school student.)

2.) If this is true, he sounds like a d*ck.

Those poor parents. They just want to know what happened to their sons and all these kids and parents are keeping quiet to protect their own.

So sad.
