Believe it or not, that makes a huge difference for my kids. Guess they're the only ones in FCPS who don't bounce out of bed at 5:45 a.m. each day. Why are people dragging up the time change. That ship has sailed -- and belatedly in this area compared to the rest of the country where people realized that abusing growing brains for the convenience of parents and traffic was kind of bizarre. |
Well, unless you live almost next door to your high school, that thirty or forty minutes will be whittled down to around twenty when you deal with rush hour. |
| Did the thread get hijacked or is there a new TOS ("Theory of Sleep") course requirement in IB? |
| Back on topic kiddos. The pp raised a valid point. If there are so many strong opinions about eliminating IB in FCPS, why has no one taken it to the school board? |
Suggestions that FCPS scale back IB are being brought to the SB's attention and getting a lot of support. https://fcps.uservoice.com/forums/302115-what-are-your-ideas-for-balancing-the-potential-1/filters/top?page=2 There are a lot of people feeding from the IB trough in FCPS, so it won't be easy. I'm sure some of the IB coordinators post on these boards about how great IB supposedly is; their jobs depend on it and it's not like they really have that much to do besides slapping their school's name on IBO marketing materials. |
Posting comments that are likely never read or considered does not constitute bringing something to the school boards attention, and the number of "likes" does not equal getting a lot of support. |
Agree. But they should get rid of IB--or limit it to one school or two. |
If you say so. It looks to me like a lot of people support cutting back on wasteful IB expenditures. |
And a lot more people on that page supported not changing start times. It made no difference. Pages like that are just set up to let people feel like they are being heard. |
| I can't believe this stupid thread is still going... Don't you people have jobs?? Families?? |
You are probably correct about your last statement. However, you do understand that these questions are not mutually exclusive? There is no winner. Frankly, I'm for cutting lots of things: IB; start time change; FLES; AAP centers; most travel for Gatehouse; etc.etc. |
Given the greater publicity about start times and AAP, I'm surprised the level of concern about IB was this great. But you are exactly right: plenty of things need to be on the chopping black, including but mot limited to IB. |
The noise on the anonymous message board is not a good indicator. Probably just a couple people with mega-chips on their shoulders. |
+1. No doubt. |
Doubt it. People see the low IB participation rates and poor test scores at IB schools and know IB is a big waste of money. The annual PYP, MYP and DP participation fees alone would pay for several more classroom teachers. Add in the ridiculous training fees and salaries for IB coordinators and the picture gets even worse. |
