What is it about UVA that makes people so gaga

70 kids last hear from TJ. Among self reports, less than half that number this year. So, less than 10%.

TJ kids actually seem to be trending toward OOS options over time. It was 72 to UVA last year and 37 self-reported this year.

What’s up with Pitt?

Im glad they have a true band now for the student section. What school in a top conference and with so many successful teams doesn’t have a real, organized band?

Stanford used to have a similar type of thing to the Pep band, but they also tended to offend.

Pitt gave out quite a bit of merit for a while, but I've heard they are dialing it back.

Try top 3 public and overall top 25

"If you were a Harvard grad and someone commented that Harvard isn't prestigious, you likely wouldn't feel compelled to respond. It would be like water off a duck's back. UVA supporters feel compelled to respond, and it usually results in a fight."

But UVA IS top 2, or 3 public university in America behind Berkeley and UCLA (sometimes tying with them) for 27 years. https://news.virginia.edu/content/us-news-19-rankings-rate-uva-no-3-public-and-no-2-best-value-among-publics

I think UVA is okay and clearly has a strong academic history - but its severely tarnished by too many scandals in recent years and a heavy-drinking-jock culture that is not for everyone. Definitely not a place for the high-brow private school East coast or European sets.

Perhaps you should go and tour. My DD is a rising senior and has seen none of that in her 3 years at UVA. I have been very impressed and I went to Yale. And I love the in-state tuition, especially now that DD is going to graduate school. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Virginia
