^^ the man also had what appears to be an semi automatic weapon. |
Well, to be fair, you can't run naked through a theater or shopping mall in Western countries, either. Most public schools have some sort of dress code. Government employees have some sort of dress code, even agencies that have dress-down days. |
Why would the burka ban being debated on the grounds of security be "silly"? Burkas have been used to hide gender and weapons in multiple instances. The question of "values" is definitely tricky. France's values are, among others, include (a) freedom of speech/expression, (b) secularism, and (c) equality for all, including women. Obviously there's a conflict among these values.... Does France have the right to say, "you have freedom of speech, but within our framework of secularism"? Is (b) secularism necessary to help ensure (a) freedom of speech and (c) equality for all? I can't answer these questions, myself. |
Do you think people should be allowed to wear crosses or yarmulkes in public places, including government, public hospitals and public schools? |
I'm convinced. Let's ban Halloween costumes. Halloween masks get used in bank robberies all the time (at least according to the movies I watch which is my only reference point, but probably as accurate as PP's). |
Thats like saying that if a woman is arrested in the US she has no right to have a female strip search her because it is a function of male guards job to strip search prisoners. |
Actually, the wearing of masks has long been prohibited in the US under certain circumstances. Pretty sure there would be religious exemptions. |
YES, they don't hide your freaking face, do they? |
Of course worshiping people is forbidden Islam - which is precisely why there's such a crazy irony in the idolization of Muhammad. And yes, many Muslims do idolize and nearly worship Muhammad - even though they say they don't. But when you look at the attitudes, actions, and beliefs, including as you say "him more that they love their parents, their children, their life" that's precisely what they're doing. Muhammad was an important Muslim prophet in Islam, an important teacher, but he was completely mortal. A human being. Limited flesh, just like all human beings are. Making Muhammad untouchable to criticism, imagery, and humor, is not love. When people do this to Muhammad, it makes him different from us. Not just a teacher or spiritual leader, but it puts him in a level and degree that differentiates humble humanity, to something/someone that you idolize. It was absolutely always insane to me how people put the Quran (God's word, Islamically) on the same level of Sunnah. Like they're both equally important. Human and God. Yes of course Muslims who do this won't admit that they're idolozing Muhammad, but I have never understand how one could put the two on an equal plane, and not be idolizing Muhammad. I've long felt that (many) Muslims are doing precisely what the religion was meant to not do. They've made the human messenger the focus. |
Now that's silly, and basically a straw man. Moreover, your average mask-wearing bank robber also enters the bank brandishing a weapon and yelling "hands up!" |
Well, in France, they are not allowed... A woman who wore a headscarf (not a burka) in a day care was asked to remove it. She refused, and got fired. She appealed, and lost her appeal. Most of the French public applauded the fact that she lost her appeal. Google baby loup for more information. |
Orthodox Jewish woman also wear a Burka instead of a wig or head scarf. |

I'm the PP you addressed. Since you're responding to me with silliness, I'll ask a question. Why did you post about the Muslim police officer who was killed yesterday, but not about the second police officer killed yesterday who had the kid, or about the police officer killed this morning? In both of these cases, somebody else noted their deaths. What is the point of emphasizing his religion by calling him out and not the other dead policement, are we sure he was actually a practicing Muslim vs. secular, and how does this contrast with your distaste for calling the culprits "Muslim terrorists"? |
In Britain and France and Italy, people get fired for wearing yarmulkes, crosses, and posting crosses in the classroom all the time. Google it. It would be nice to hear your outrage about that. |
