Jaw-dropping but in a great way

It's a documentary.

+1. In a similar vein, loved Exit Through the Gift Shop. Both movies won the Oscar for best documentary, I think.

Sugar Man won, Gift Shop didn't. For obvious reasons.

I saw a preview screening of PIXEL last evening and if you are a Gen X'er, you will LOVE this film.

Oleanna. Very unusual. Written by David Mamet, who also wrote Glengarry Glen Ross. It's best if you can watch with a group because the conversation that comes with it is interesting.

Amore. Its in French with subtitles. It was nominated for best picture a few years ago, but I don't personally know anyone who saw it. Very sad but an excellent portrayal of end of life care. It definitely stuck with me.

Aliens 2 (but this stuff is now standard)

Jacques Tati's Trafic - very little dialogue, but full of silly sight gags. I could not stop laughing, but you have to be in the mood.

White Heat -James Cagney

Mystic Pizza - Not so much the movie which is cute, but Julia Roberts. I remember thinking, "Wow - a star is born."

The impossible (Naomi watts)
12 cloverfield lane

Just off the top of my head. I watched the latter last night for the first time. More of a thriller than I thought it would be.
