I guess that means a person can hate me, vilify me and blatantly disrespect me but because does it in private I am obligated to pay him for the privilege of doing so. I am obligated to buy tickets to his games, buy his paraphenalia and continue to help him profit off his hatred of me.
Damn, aren't I a person?

you are missing the point. you might say something in private that you might later reqret, or not even mean, and if it is taped illegally and released, it can destroy your livelihood? that seems unfair. try to ignore the subject matter and focus on the privacy aspects.

Why is everyone surprised by this? People who are public figures need to be damn careful about the things they say. Look at Mitt Romney and his comments about not caring about the 43 percent. It was a dumb thing to say, someone recorded it, and it tanked his campaign. If you say something stupid, you better be prepared to face the consequences.

By the way, I'm sure he'll manage to find a way to pay the bills. This nonsense about losing his "livelihood" is just a distraction.

I don't give a shit about Sterling. Talking about privacy concerns. Mitt was GIVING A SPEECH TO THE PUBLIC! Talk about a bad example. You have never said dumb jealous things to a gf or bf in a fight? I certainly have. I've made comments I regret. And I am not white by the way. People are human. When you state a fact in private I can see being burned. When you state an opinion in private, IMO it should carry less weight. Sorry.[/

so nothing you say in private can be held against you? is that what you are proposing?
ut,

What about all the racist shXX that Marion Barry goes around spouting? And he's not been impeached or forced to resign from the DC Council.

Marion Barry is not the President, he cant be impeached, if you dont like him Then move to DC and vote him out.
NBA is a business , people are not obligated to patronize that business if they are offended by people in that business.

Oh I live in DC and can't wait for the day that Barry is voted out, or more likely led out in cuffs or just rolled out, of the District Building. I'm pretty sure he could no longer win a citywide election. The problem is, seemingly every time he opens his mouth with his remarks, his base in Ward 8 gets fired up. Society should just have a rule-- racist rants get you thrown out of the public square or the NBA, no matter if you are white, black, green or in Mr. Sterling's case, just orange and leathery.

Shit, maybe if this happened 100 years ago and in every instance, we would not be dealing with this BS crap now.

Just because someone is an offensive oafish bigot doesn't make it illegal.

Nah, but has ended up being bad for business.

It's not fair! How come Marion Barry gets to say all kinds of stuff, and the voters keep re-electing him, but when this basketball guy says some stuff, causing the NBA to potentially lose millions and millions and millions of dollars, the NBA shuts him down?

Oh that's right, the two cases actually aren't comparable.

Barry is a racist buffoon. DC has also spent 20 years digging out of all the problems he created when he was Mayor.

JayZ sold his ownership in the New Jersey team. To my limited knowledge, Michael Jordan is the only racial minority who HS ownership in an NBA team.

At least Sterling forced CNN to suspend 6 weeks of doing nothing but talk nonstop about the Malaysian plane. But it's time now to move on -- there's a lot more urgent stuff out there ,like Ukraine.

So move to his election district and vote against him.

Part of my issue with this whole Sterling thing is the way the players are reacting. Players on the Clippers are claiming to be so offended. While I certainly respect that, Sterling has a long history of being a racist and all around crappy individual. These same players had no problem taking MILLIONS from him in salary....but they now turn their shirts on inside out in protest?!

The man is a jerk....no doubt. However, there is a whole lot of hypocrisy going on here!

You are a little bit correct in wondering how much did folks know before .... however when the real smoking gun came out... when the blatant stuff was played...
Uh... Baby you don't show your hand.. this whole time the players league was working behind the scenes and willing to walk out and STOP THE PLAYOFFS if something was not done about Sterling.

LMAO! Still reaching! Looking for any black person to compare to. Your freedom of racist expression is threatened &like a cornered animal you panick & lash out. You feel that he should express that & never suffer a consequence. He has the right to speak his mind & people shouldn't react because it was originally spoken in private. But if he said what he said in public you would defend his right to an opinion & bash anyone who reacts. We can't win with y'all no matter what!

Thank goodness the tape was released! If what he said was released word of mouth she would be all types of liars, pulling the race card, etc. Now she came
With proof his rights were violated, he was just speaking out of jealousy (dumbest reason yet), he was set up, his punishment was excessive, etc. so transparent!

no, if he said it in public I would have ZERO issue with this. It is all about where he said it and the context.

Who cares where he said it???? Who cares????
If you heard a tape recording of your neighbor saying vile things about you, would you patronize his business, go to her house, be friends with him?
Would you? Would you feel that you had to just because he said it on his back porch instead of the Giant??
It is capitalism, the market rules, I DONT HAVE TO DO BUSINESS WITH SOMEONE WHO HATES ME. PERIOD!
I don't care HOW I found out about it. THE NBA made a BUSINESS decision that they had a right to make.
IF they know their bottom line would be affected, BUH BYE!
FYI, I don't care what stupid stuff the NAACP may have done, they don't represent ALL people of color. I don't even know any black people who belong, including myself. Their actions do not validate or invalidate racism. Their actions do not diminish this man's actions.
Yes, in public or private you have the right to say whatever you want and I have a right to NOT do business with you if I don't like it !!!
By the way, if you don't want your " private" s*** to get out, don't let your side chick convince your dumb a** to let her tape ALL of your conversations!

So because you don't think his statements should have become public, we all have to pretend he didn't make them?
