Oh for God's sake, being racist is not illegal

Stupid and awful, but not illegal. It has it's own punishment. I'm tired of hearing about the basketball guy.

I don't think anyone said it was illegal. But people can express distaste in him by not supporting him or his franchise financially. And leagues can decide to kick owners out if they feel keeping them hurt their balance sheet. Capitalism at its best. Because THIS is the culture he's now living in.

Yes, and part of the punishment is being publicly shamed.

From the nonstop news coverage, one WOULD think it's illegal. This is craziness.

Oh good, are we going to dole out the same treatment for black racists?

Sure, as soon as a black racist owns a major sports franchise.

Craziness? lol, you sound really uptight. This might not be illegal but it is major news, not to mention the owners team is in the playoffs. Trust me, folks are interested in this.

I'm not the pp, but I think you missed his/her point.

Having racist ideas may not be illegal, but being racist in your actions (discrimination, etc) is absolutely illegal, and Mr. Sterling's actions have been classified as problematic, unethical, and illegal in the past. The question is not whether or not Sterling has racist ideas - it's whether he's fit to own part of a major organization with the kinds of beliefs he holds, and long let his personal beliefs affect his business. It's very clear that Sterling cannot separate between his personal ideas, and how he acts in his businesses.

He just got banned for life and filed $2.5 million, so, yeah, I'd say it's a big deal.

Fined, not filed.

His GF is mixed (Latina and AA), his team has AA players. Goes to show that racism can be very insidious.

Just like the whole situation with the Duck Dynasty guy earlier this year, you have a right to hold whatever views you please. BUT, you must deal with the consequences if people are unhappy with those views.

And yes, this is bullshit in a league where a vast majority of their players are people of color. Fucking idiot.

his girlfriend is a Hispanic / black. he's in his 80's. sounds more like he's talking nonsense than racism. he could sue the NBA for age discrimination.
