We mock what we don't understand (and can't afford). |
MoCo is actually very well planned...want to look at sector plans for every square inch of the county from Takoma Park to Chevy Chase? Enjoy some light reading. http://www.montgomeryplanning.org/community/area1.shtm Areas 2 and 3 are available as well. Yes, The Silver Spring center is a fiasco, but the remainder of heavily planned downtown Silver Spring is one of the biggest urban success stories in the country. Also, the county developed and owns one of the finest performing arts venues in the country, built and owns a successful hotel and conference center in North Bethesda/Rockville, and has one of the oldest and best performing community college systems in the country. Anything else? How about the master plans for White Flint and the Rockville Pike? Or the re-building of most of Bethesda, which despite heavy private investment was basically a local government re-zoning the create focused development. You probably wouldn't remember, what with not living in the area for long apparently that Bethesda Row was kind of a crap-hole before its redevelopment. You can accuse Montgomery County of many bad things, but having a focus on urban planning and development is not one of those, I'm afraid. |
Well. I don't understand why anybody would pay $98 for yoga pants, and I also can't afford to. However, I don't mock people who do. What I do mock is the idea that hordes of people will take the Purple Line to Bethesda to steal $98 yoga pants and carouse drunkenly in front of Georgetown Cupcake. |

Bethesda Row is quiet?
That is news to me, and I am sure the thousands of people who are there each day. |
Really? I quite liked eating at Flaps and my parents bought their Ford station wagons from Bethesda Ford. Some familys have very deep roots in the BCC area and can remember and believe me, what you're refering to as progress has made Bethesda very expensive and very crowded and no where near as nice as it used to be. |
If I close my eyes, I can remember the smell of the wood floors at Woolworth's on Wisconsin Avenue... Mellower times, then. |
Price is irrelevant. The shops there aren't that great, period. Grandma tunics from courage b? Lilly Pulitzer from Sassanova? I'll pass. Most of the restaurants are not great for the price and no different than what one can get throughout this area. |
But meanwhile the population of Montgomery County has nearly doubled since 1970. Things change, even if you don't want them to. |
LOL!! I am a "person from PG County" who lives in Bethesda. And to be honest, I am more concerned about the "people from Montgomery County" BCC students who drink and get high near the playground by my house. If the "People from PG County" can help drive them off, I am all for it. |
no . . . not that I think a lot of people can afford Bethesda. I live in the outer burbs surrounded by tons of wealth. It's just not their thing. funny - Old money doesn't impress easily, and there's plenty of that around here. For others, it's a different story. So just b/c you're wearing $98 yoga pants doesn't mean they're yours free and clear. Debt's a way of life for many. |
Yes this thread is from 2013! What is the latest, people who are following the construction and updates? Now with more people commuting, is this line going to open before the next gen starts their regular commute to work? |
| Do you know if they plan to add J# (whatever # it was) Metrobus with more commuters to and from work now? This was the one that started at Medical Center NIH and went east to New Carrelton Orange line or somewhere around there? https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1253209.page#29294552 |
| So bizarre to dig up this ancient thread. But if you're really clueless and not just making the point that the Purple Line is over budget and way behind schedule, you can follow construction progress here: https://www.purplelinemd.com/ |
