Who is watching Wisconsin?

We need to cut back and get in fighting shape again so we can compete. We need to use our freedom/security and make it easy for hard workers to achieve their dreams so we can crush all the centralized competitors economically. When the U S is on its game and empowers the individual, nobody can compete. We are way off track at this time.

So all the changes to workplace/worker protection over the past century ... are going to just have to go away because someone in China doesn't have them?

I'm honestly asking, I see your point, namely that we have to accept a reduction in our standard of living. Your response seems to be "accept the stick being rammed up the middle class's rear end", the folks in Wisconsin are deciding to protest, May 1968 style.

I was wondering when we'd be having our equivalent of the Winter of Discontent.
The union thing is nothing. This crap is really gonna hit the fan. Probably rediculous inflation and no growth would be the best we can hope for at this point unless we cut the federal government 30% across the board.

The GOP is proposing cuts to non-defense, non-entitlement spending. Until they start taking the meat cleaver to defense and entitlements, they're just blowing smoke up your ass. But keep on voting for the deficit spenders.

As it stands now, the federal government is primarily an entity for transferring America's wealth from working people to defense contractors and senior citizens.

I saw a poll last week that said slightly more than 50% of the public favors defense spending cuts.

Right now the republicans are making false promises, and the people are eating it up. If they want make good on their promises, they need to cut defense. There are hundreds of billions of dollars to be trimmed. Let's face it, only Republicans can propose defense cuts without committing political suicide. They need to get on it now.

Definition: A promise is something you say to get elected.
