Paramount 17 Nick has an open bid. To answer the question posed by another person about the CHRVA Region expanding regionals, I don't see this happening. Before this season, the CHRVA Region has actually declined bids that made their way all the way down to the last place finisher(s) at Bid Regionals. Last year, a reallocated 16 Freedom bid came back to the Region, but the Region decided to throw it back since it would have been given to one of the last place finishers at Regionals. You would think the Region would want to accept any bids that come back to the Region? I'm glad they appear to have adjusted course with this policy by awarding bids to the last place finisher(s). The Region does not have the infrastructure to host Bid Regionals over 2 days, and they need to improve their seeding and tiebreaking procedures before they even think about expanding Bid Regionals. Using point % as a tiebreaker is terribly misguided. |
Good recap On Metro 18 Travel and their middle situation, they actually had several players elect to not go to Reno in order to attend prom and only had 2 middles in Reno. The player with the concussion issue has sat out for much of the season and was only able to play on day 1. This team had only 7 players return from the 17 Travel team that came in 3rd in 17 Open at last year's GJNC (most went to college early). To get an open bid and finish in the top half at Nationals is a really solid season given all those factors. VA Juniors 18s definitely had a solid season - I saw them play against Metro at Cap Hill and they were a good team. Saw a VAJRs IG post with the commitments from that team. Quite a few going D1 (maybe 6?). Wishing them the best in their college careers. On VA Elite, don't know much about that team, but your assessment that they would have been better off if they hadn't been upgraded from Freedom seems correct. It is a bummer that Paramount 18s had such a rough season. Club volleyball for players at that level has been a big part of their lives for many years - it's too bad they didn't have a better final season. In addition to the injury issues, losing a lot of players to Metro didn't help. |

One more minor fix:
* Metro- 11s (American), 12s (USA), 13s (National), 14s (Open), 15s (Liberty), 15s (Open), 16s (American), 16s (Open), 17s (Freedom), 17s (Open), 18s (Freedom), 18s (Open) * Paramount - 12s (American), 13s (National), 14s (American), 14s (Freedom), 15s (Open), 16 (Freedom), 16s (National), 17s (National), 18s (Freedom) * MVSA - 13s (American), 14s (USA), 16s (Freedom), 17s (American) * Blue Ridge - 14s (National), 15s (National), 16s (USA) * VAJRS - 15s (USA (maybe convert to National)), 17s (National), 18s (National) * Va Elite - 13s (Freedom), 17s (American), 18s (National) * MDJRS - 12s (National), 13s American), 15s (National) * BAVA - 14s (American), 15s (American) * Loudoun Elite - 15s (Freedom), 17s (Freedom) * Libero- 15s (Freedom), 16s (American) * Liberty Elite - 15s (Freedom), 16s (American) * Columbia - 18s (American) * Premier Edge - 14s (Freedom) * American - 14s (USA) 11s only have National & American divisions; unlike 13-18s, 11 National bids come from qualifiers (w/ a handful also awarded to bigger regions) and American fully from the regions. |
Thank you kindly for the updates. I assume this is almost final info since the Nationals is just around the corner. |

Several interesting notes from today's updated USAV bid spreadsheets:
*CHRVA got a reallocated bid at 12 American -- filled by MVSA 12 Vortex *It also looks like CHRVA would have been in line for a reallocated 13 American bid, but declined it (surprising; I'm sure they could have found some club willing to take it despite needing to scramble to make arrangements....VA Juniors would've been next-in-line from Bid Regionals) *They are expanding 14 Open to 48 teams with the addition of 9 at-large teams. Seems unlikely that any CHRVA teams would be good candidates, though....after Metro, who have already qualified, Blue Ridge, Paramount, and MVSA are all ranked in the 100s (AES) *Appears CHRVA was offered -- but has not yet accepted or declined -- a reallocated 17 National bid. If everyone moved up a slot, MDJRS would be in line based on Bid Regional finish....though they did decline a reallocated bid at 14s, so it will be interesting to see how that one plays out. Loudoun Elite 17 Tony would be next. |
MDJRS 17 is now on the spreadsheet in the 17 Freedom slot. So they must have accepted. |
| More changes at the 15s. Metro 15 National has moved up to the 15 USA division. Others have moved up as well |

OK, trying to update this based on the recent additions / revisions:

Almost! The spreadsheets now show that reallocated 13 American Bid, previously shown as "declined," as "accepted." Not filled yet, though. So it looks like one more team in (VAJRS?). On another note, they unsurprisingly filled all of those 14 Open at-large slots w/ non-CHRVA teams. |

I think the first post is up-to-date ... including the bid now held by VAJRS 13 Elite. I also added the results from the 18s championships.
If I've counted correctly, 51 CHRVA teams have accepted bids (and only one team declined an earned bid). For comparison, I think I see 11 ODR teams that have accepted bids (all are ECVE, 540, or SERV teams). Per the official spreadsheets, I think I see 12 more bids that need to be filled (by other regions). Note that some regions don't fill their allocated/returned bids until after all qualifiers end in early May, so things can still be fluid at this late date. ... I'm not sure if it was this thread, but there was a mention of expanding Bid Regionals. I don't know how well that would work without expanding to two days, but I wonder if there could be some type of challenge event in May, where teams could vie for reallocated or returned bids. Teams that want to retain their earned bid can opt to stay where they are. However, teams could compete for a better bid that becomes available to the region. For example, a team earned a USA division bid at a qualifier. Another team in the age group earned an American division slot at Bid Regionals. Some time in early May, CHRVA is gets a reallocated National division bid. Under current "conditions," the reallocated National bid would go to the team holding the USA bid. But, what if both teams thinks they can compete at the National division level. They could play a winner-take-all match for that National division bid. Again, this wouldn't take away the bid already earned by either team and gives teams the opportunity to improve their bid on the court. Teams that fall out of the "reallocation bracket" at Bid Regionals could also play to earn any Freedom bids that become available after most of the regular season is over (no more 9th place Bid Regional teams earning a bid without playing to earn it). Even with all the possible outcomes, it would take maybe one day to firm up the region's bids. |
