This. Super frustrating for parents who need daycare to force KAH (and other providers) to close down.

You do understand that one reason the schools continue to be closed is that the lots have not been plowed, right? It’s not snow at this point. It’s solid ice that weighs as much as concrete.

Childcare staff and parents would be in the way of the people trying to clear the lots. I can’t get off my street yet, so it’s likely others (childcare providers) are in a similar situation. It is what it is.

Do you think we're idiots? The schools with unplowed lots should not be open and of course would not be open if MCPS lifted the "all childcare must stay closed" bam. Likewise, the childcare programs who don't have enough staff who can safely travel to work at them should not and would not be open. No one is asking for any of that. We are just saying that the programs at schools where the lots *are*, clear and staff *can* get to work should be allowed to open, at least on Thursday.

(And to be clear, our school is one of the ones that's unplowed so ours would be closed regardless and that's fine! But I don't want other working parents to struggle just because I am. And I want to go back to the days where MCPS at least pretended to trust their on-site providers to make their own decisions, and to care about the working parents and child care workers who lose out when they don't.)

+1 we've explained all this many times but some folks here have their own narrative they want to promote so they can have a free day off work

Yes, everyone is aware parents are stressed. The ice, unfortunately, remains unmoved.

A lot of ice has been moved. Our school's parking lot and bus circle is clear. I don't know if the child care provider could get staff in but nobody has asked them, because they dgaf

Also literally every other school system in the area including DCPS. I have no idea why MCPS is under such attack here. The whole region is in the same boat.

I do have an honest question. If schools did open for childcare, would only the kids who normally go be allowed to attend or would they be forced to accept all kids?

If you're a parent it does. It turns out, some parents are workers. I know that's a foreign concept to Taylor and the MoCo elite.

Working parents should call out. Shut things down. I'm sure the rich folks in Bethesda would love prepping for a colonoscopy only to have it cancelled at the last minute because they don't have the staff.

Nobody (well, almost nobody) is complaining about school being closed. We are complaining about the MCPS ban that keeps any school-based child care program from being allowed to open once their lot is plowed/safe and they have enough staff able to come in. And it appears to just be happening because school-based childcare only is allowed to open when MCPS offices iron and Taylor has decided to give all central office staff snow days pretty much every day that school staff have off, the impact on childcare and working parents being treated as irrelevant. That's the anti-working parent part of it.

These are private childcare providers. MCPS doesn't force them to accept anyone. They also have to be licensed and can't care for unlimited numbers of kids. They have to keep to staff ratios. Our provider is KAH and they are very flexible. You can register as a drop in and just pay for the days you need. However I don't know how that works when there is a wait-list, which has often been the case.
