The chunk seems to be a similar distance from Crown and Wootton (but maybe a little closer to Wootton), so it doesn’t seem to be about distance. And it certainly doesn’t help with stability. And I don’t think Wootton is overcrowded so it’s not a school that needs to cut people out for no reason. I don’t get it.

Maybe MCPS thinks this small chunk doesn’t have much voice. Bully the easy target.

This will not be pretty!

One thing to notice is that these expensive houses are nearly unimpacted while the relatively poorer neighborhoods get rezoned out of Wootton.

I noticed this too, actually.

Because DuFief is not geographically close to Wootton. There are many other neighborhoods and schools that are closer and DuFief is very close to QO. Why dont you care about neighborhood schools and geographic proximity like all the other parents?

Sure, neighborhood schools. That’s why three out of four of the dufief options have split articulation and bus them all over. And they make massive changes to Dufief while making more minor ones to the surrounding Travilah and Stone Mill. I’m sure it’s really about neighborhood schools and geographic proximity and not at all about the fact they think DuFief will just sit quietly and not fight this.

That’s right, they thinks DuFief is small neighborhood and can bully us. We need to fight back for this. It’s been this week for decades.

It’s been this boundary for decades, plus frost ms and Wootton hs is currently undercapacity and undercrowded. They should move the travailah to qo

How about wishing both Travilah and Dufief still go to Wootton, why pointing fingers to Travilah? Because you don’t want to go under the bus, you throw your neighbor under it? Interesting

My bad, i read the table wrong. Yes, the numbers are all about the same.

I'm pretty sure the current options will exacerbate educational inequality, but I amsatisfied. I wonder can we reduce the FARMS to 5% or even lower for Churchill?

Are we looking at different data set? For all 4 options, Churchill Asian decrease from 37% to34.7% and farm from 9.9% to 9.8%.

It's not about the travailah, Wootton is now undercapacity, but it is planned to be taken by the current Churchill students.

This cracks me up😂 Can you re-read your post and think through the logic?

Dufief is very logical to move somewhere since close to both QO and Crown.

I thought wooton was overcrowded.

Everyone at Churchill proposed to move to Wootton (literally one small ES Wayside) doesn’t want to be moved to Wootton. Everyone it seems at Wootton doesn’t want to be moved out of Wootton.
So MCPS leave these schools alone. Crown is going to experience a good amount of growth and will be overcrowded again.

Don’t piss off people to save $40k in portable costs at Churchill.

Last I checked there have been zero issues due to crowding at either school despite what capacity numbers might show.

Fix Wootton (and Magruder while at it) as well before starting to move kids to Wootton.

Yes Wootton already the most Asian school becomes more so in all scenarios. WTF makes no sense. I have a ton of Asian friends so nothing wrong with it at all, but why further perpetuate the stereotype of Wootton and increase the nicknames for it.

RCES has two options going to QO, one option to Crown, one option to... GAITHERSBURG!

I highly doubt they will move Lakelands to another school since it is a walk zone to QO. They usually prioritize walkers in these situations.

Are you familiar with the Horizon Hills neighborhood adjacent the Wootton and Frost?

Exactly. Look at that bump out right next to the school. The houses right behind the football field are bussed to RM.

I have no idea why they won’t clean up the extra little areas like that in all school zones. There is one for WC too.

Is Cold Spring ES still undercrowded? Why not move Horizon Hill to Cold Spring, Frost and Wootton since they are all walkable to that neighborhood? I don’t get why that isn’t an option. RM is over crowded and Wootton is under capacity.

Maybe they need to make walkers go to their HS within 2 miles instead of busing them past 1-3 HS to change around some FARMS numbers. It’s expensive and wasteful and it’s takes the neighborhood feel out for schools. Split MS is also a terrible idea. The maps are so messed up looking

It’s undercrowded but falling apart. So so so old

Option 1 is a No-Go. It still leaves HS over allocated and creates many more MS split articulations.

Options 1 and 3 contain the most of what you are talking about. Lots of walkers to other schools bussed to Crown.

So why even mess with Wootton families and force them to move out to QO and crown? There are only losers and the ones being moved out are the relatively poorer ones. Financial hit on them will be devastating. What’s even worse is that their kids will have to be separated from their friends. This kind of double whammy is too much.
