Is that really a thing? 15-30 min commute? We're 5 min without traffic, maybe 10 with |
So that's a good bit less than a mile walk, right? I don't think that's typical for most people. I think it's more common to be in the 1-2 mile range which would take a lot longer. |
Did they release the results of the priorities survey? |
8th graders in 2026-27 would still be at their current school because the new boundaries aren't starting until fall 2027. |
A current 6th grader will be in 9th grade in the 2027/28 school year, and will start at whatever high school their address is newly assigned to. |
Total opposite for me. Split articulation is the biggest issue to me. |
Remember the process to change bell times? A year of talk and pretty minimal change that no one cares about anymore (if ever did)? |
So 10th graders have to move schools? That’s pretty cruel to do to kids at that age. I guess there is no regard for the social impact of that move. |
That was three superintendents ago. How is that relevant? |
Look at the buses. It’s anywhere from 10-60 minutes depending on the routes |
It’s terrible. But at least you have some advance notice to move to school of your choice or apply to private school. That’s what we’ve already seen kids doing in our neighborhood, just to avoid the disruption. |
Agreed, that is awful |
My guess is they will go with something resembling options 1, 2, or 4, and then use the new regional program model to effect some intermixing. They were saying during the program analysis report at the BoE meeting that they didn’t want kids to have to travel far to access programs. So it would make no sense to then make them travel from one end of the county to the other just for regular school. |
Well pretty clearly they are trying to “fix” Kennedy and Wheaton. |
Which neighborhoods had some good notice of this? The WJ ones? The rest of the schools only got added to the list a year ago or so |
