Do these numbers include each other? For example, if the number is "4" for August and "4" for October, does that mean "8" between the two months? Or does the 4 carry over?

for some schools these numbers are the same, and for others they are very different and now I'm confused. Thank you!

I think they do include each other

I didn't even think of this - that is a good question.

I assume it's cumulative, as it clearly states TOTAL offers made BY, not offers made in this month, etc.

We live in Mt. Pleasant. Besides the list below, we also have the option of an immersion charter in a language we care about (though not a high-demand like Spanish or Chinese), which involves either a commute in the opposite direction from our jobs or a parent-organized bus. We know parents there, but there's no good feeder option.

All the options on this list involve a bus or commute, but at least they'd be in the direction of our (federal worker) jobs, and tbh in neighborhoods we'd be happy to move to someday, assuming our incomes and future interest rates agree (for now, we're golden handcuffed to MtP via a prepandemic rate). fwiw, looking at the lottery history, a few - Hyde-Addison, Murch, etc - accepted more from the wait list last year than our current wait list number. Not sure we currently know any parents at any of them. But some of them feed to Deal (forgive my ignorance, does that apply to lottery kids too?)

The closest/easiest option for us in terms of commute...also not on this list...is actually a private school which has offered very generous financial aid, where we know several parents - but of course, the annual tuition would still exceed five figures, once you add in aftercare. And this is just kid 1 of 2.

Honest questions, if anyone has thoughts:
What is the likelihood that any of the schools on this list might come through - and if they do, are they worth the commitment over the relatively known quantities (to us) of an immersion charter that comes with a few asterisks, or a private that comes with a non-zero price tag?

And while I guess it's sort of a pointless exercise to ask "what would you do?" - since everyone has different calculations and different weights they give various factors, and also we're not including some pertinent (to us) details here - I am curious anyway!

1 Ross Elementary School Waitlisted - #22

2 Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Oyster) - English Dominant Waitlisted - #47

3 Hearst Elementary School Waitlisted - #27

4 Murch Elementary School Waitlisted - #16

5 Stoddert Elementary School Waitlisted - #33

6 Hyde-Addison Elementary School Waitlisted - #23

7 Latin American Montessori Bilingual (LAMB) PCS Waitlisted - #22

8 Key Elementary School Match (enrollment pending)

We are at Key (in bounds) and I think something like 90%+ are IB. It's a great school (echoing another comment that it basically feels like a private school) but be ready that it's going to be tricky for playdates etc. My daughter only has one friend who is OOB and it's a real PITA to get to them for a playdate. Also Mt. Pleasant to Key in the afternoon is going to be a super long and annoying drive.

Waitlisted #19 DL and #13 Eng for Cleveland. Historical data shows movement on waitlist offers. We won't get into Bruce Monroe #15, so wondering anyone's thoughts on Cleveland movement. Matched with Thomson, and am realizing they don't have before care and we are in RTO hell.

Might be worth calling the school (not today, but after things settle down a little) and asking whether they normally take 6th graders. Maybe those were sibs they made an exception for.

The OP here, thank you, that's what I thought, but then I got confused. Is there a place to see what WL a school is on for a given grade or do you just wait for a call (or not)?

So if my kid #3 on the WL at a school where historically they’ve always gone at least 10 deep into their WL, what’s the earliest we may see movement? Is it June for some reason? That’s when the statistics start counting WL offers.

Second, obviously I should go ahead and reenroll or do whatever I need to do for my current in-bound school, right?

What do you mean? your waitlist number will tell you how many people are ahead of you for each school.

Your kid's WL numbers will update in real-time in the myschooldc portal as schools make offers (or as siblings of enrolled kids move ahead of you). That's how you see the progress or have some idea how things are moving.

Yes, re-enroll. Earliest movement could be after the May enrollment deadline - depending on lottery yield, the list could move. But if it's for an upper grade, lots of schools don't require reenrollment until later so they won't really know how many spots they have. DCPS schools with lots of IB kids also move their lists later because they need to manage potential additional enrollment of kids with by-right access.

It seems like we might get into Powell with luck? If we did, would we then have a middle school feeder at MacFarland in the dual language program?

Shepherd Elementary School Waitlisted - #39
Murch Elementary School Waitlisted - #41
Lafayette Elementary School Waitlisted - #42
Hearst Elementary School Waitlisted - #30
Janney Elementary School Waitlisted - #57
DC Bilingual PCS Waitlisted - #74
Powell Elementary School (Dual Language) - English Dominant Waitlisted - #7
E.L. Haynes PCS - Elementary School Waitlisted - #14

If Powell is not your in-bound school, the wait-list number may get as inbounds kids add themselves to the wait-list and are placed above you.

I'm pretty sure that both campuses of Latin will accept kids in any grade of MS, they just often don't have seats open. Under 5 might make it if there are even a couple of spots open this year.

Hello!

This is our first lottery for PK3 and had E W Stokes French as 1st choice but got to our 3rd choice Mundo Verde. Still hoping for Stokes, what are the chances with #36 WL?
