Sitting back and laughing at the theater of hypocrisy. So many on DCUM deserve exactly what is coming.

I’m sorry, you were dropped on your head at birth. Only a slow thinking person could remotely think the two are equivalent. Bless your heart.

I have told at least three different people who have expressed concern, “you voted for this”. All three have looked at me in shock because I uttered the words out loud. One said, you don’t know who I voted for. I looked the person in his face and said yeah, I do. I remember our conversations. There might not be many more, but they need to own and accept they created tHese problems in their lives and I honestly don’t care to give a supportive ear.

^exactly what this thread is for.

*chefs kiss*

Unfortunately, getting the rid of the penny is actually a reasonable policy decision and should have been done years ago. I almost hate that Trump is the one getting credit for it

This thread made my day!
No sympathy at all for the MAGA voters. How can they not understand everything is connected and that THEY rely on fed govt more than non-MAGAs?!?

And, these cuts affect DC based feds a lot more. Feds outside of DC might lose their job, but their community will remain robust. Real estate won't crater, and the job market will won't be oversaturated the way it will be in DC.

DC feds are hosed. RIP the job market, real estate market, tax base, etc.

Maybe. However, RTO could boost the DC economy. When COVID hit and everyone started WFH, local restaurants, dry cleaners, coffee shops, hair salons, professional clothing stores, etc had to lay off a lot of workers or close entirely. RTO for federal workers, even a reduced number, could have a ripple effect by boosting these businesses. Similarly, companies contracting with the government may move their offices to DC in order to be closer to their customers, and the number of trade shows may increase as well.

I'm not spending on any of the above until further notice. Too risky.

Notice from whom? And any cutbacks will only be temporary. Once you're more comfortable with your current situation, you will spend on these things.

As for when, Trump and DOGE need to be done with their shock and awe before things gear up for the midterms, which means Christmas of this year, if not earlier (they won't want to be Grinch, so probably October). Identifying fraud and waste will continue because those are a cudgel the GOP can wield against vulnerable Democrats.

They have a 180-day plan. Washington Post got a copy of it.

The notice would be from me. Who else is going to give me a notice when we have a government that has eliminated communications from federal agencies??

Of course, we hope cutbacks are only temporary. Most of those things though? I won't go back and spend on them. I make my own coffee or don't drink it. I know how to cut my own hair. I rarely need a dry cleaner.

Great, so we know the current chaos will last 6 months. Will the government resemble what it was? No, it won't. But families will figure things out. This is not a general state of turmoil for the economy like the Great Depression, Great Recession, or even Covid-19. It is a rapid restructuring of the Federal government. Many wish Trump would have done what Clinton did in the 1990s and take 6 months to study the problem, then reduce the Federal workforce by 377k jobs. Trump made a determination that he didn't have 6 months to do what needed to be done. So he skipped the study and went straight to offering buyouts, etc...

Because, why again? Is that when Musk takes over officially, or is it Vance?

Because of politics. Republicans have a very narrow house majority. Moving slow like Clinton would give Democrats time to maneuver, potentially blocking any layoffs, or even a study of who to lay off. Just look at the slew of TRO requests - it would be worse. The smart move for Democrats would be to get in front of this train and co-opt it. But they have their own politics that forced them to come out against layoffs.

Put simply, he Trump had to do it quickly or it wouldn't happen at all.

With regard to schadenfreude, why bother? Do you enjoy saying "I told you so?"

If you're not affected, spend that emotional energy comforting someone who is. Offer them a job or financial assistance until they land one. Otherwise, you're no better than what you accuse MAGA of being.

democrats have way more important people to look out for than MAGA tw*ts who asked for this sh*t.
The days of the patsy democrat are gone. You FA you better be ready to FO.

Yes, I will look out for the people who DIDN’T vote for the convicted rapists who likes to watch teen girls undress backstage, which he got to do because he was the owner of the pageant and so too powerful for young girls to confront.

I’ve done this to a few people who voted for Trump and you can literally see them processing the information and coming to the realization. It takes them a good 15-30 seconds. Their inability to understand consequences is what led us to this point.

They usually stammer and then say something along the lines of “….well I didn’t vote for THIS…”

These people are myopic, short sighted morons.

Moron, he is the leader of our government and it was typical for POTUS to disclose.
Similarly, ELON is a special gov employee who is subject to the fed ethics rules and should be disclosing his financial holdings for conflict and isn't.

Accessing and manipulating and/or disclosing individual financial and personal information violates cyber laws, ethics laws, privacy laws. It is criminal.

If you're this stupid, just stop posting.

I can't wait til the 83% of social security recipients that Musk falsely believes are receiving payments illegally (because they are over 150 years old) stop receiving their checks.

To be fair, they have been so conditioned on right wing abuse of their vote they thought it would be the same as any time before - Republicans would cut off some worthless fraudulent “them”, the hard working white people would keep getting the checks they earned and deserved, and everything would be fine and the liberals would cry.

What they didn’t anticipate is just how much the tech bros who are in charge now loathe everything and everyone that isn’t them. Most of them weren’t raised or aided by an elite and have zero regards for institutions or the law that protect the elite. They got where they are by breaking stuff, and breaking stuff is what they will do. Most are some combination of Aspie, psychopath, or both and have little concern for human suffering. Their brains just aren’t capable of relating to that or even considering that, except to the extent it sexually thrills them.

Moreover I’d say a good many were bullied relentlessly as children due to their disabilities and awkwardness, and they were never anyone’s first choice of boyfriend. They can buy their partners now, but they know without their money no one would give them a second glance.

This all feeds into their perception that they are naturally superior and everyone else who isn’t useful to them can die. Sorry farmers and plumbers, you look and think too much like football Chad to get a pass this time.

My friend emailed a US representative about the J6 pardons. His response:
"As supported by the landslide election results, the American people fully support Trump's right to issue pardons as he seems fit."

I did not know that if you vote for a president, by default you support everything they do but MAGA certainly thinks so. Also apparently even if you didn't vote for Trump you, as an American, fully support him.

From 2016 I’ve always thought - there are those of us who love America and then there are those who voted for Trump. I pray that we can withstand the onslaught of the America-hating Trump voters and all the havoc they have wreaked.

Anyone who refers to 2024 as a "landslide" is either ignorant of history or lying to exploit those who are.
