lol sure. You really do not understand what is happening. How many private sector jobs do you think the DMV has? The plan is to 1/2 the federal government workforce. Contractors(4 x as many as federal employees) are going to be reduced by 75-85%. Drive the Dulles access road and point out a big building that is not related to government contracting. Oh and defense contractors are on the block.

You, sir, are smoking crack. If you think the federal workforce will be cut in half in the next 4 years, you are a moron.

You’re obviously not paying attention. USAID is being cut from 10,000+ to ~300. Education is next.

So, the vast majority of those 10,000 were not in DC...most were not even in the US.

A different, controversial point, but the government will start funding international efforts once again which will require hiring people (both in and out of the government) to service those grants...with the plan to have the "right" people hired to service those grants.

ummm one contractor had a 300 million dollar contract with them. It's gone.

Yeah...I got it. But the plan is to now say give $300MM to a new contractor to say help build new SuperMax prisons in El Salvador or detention facilities in Guatemala for holding immigrants.

The money will go to a new NGO (likely with HQ in the DMV) that will buy materials and what not from US companies and have employees mostly based outside the US.

So less than 300 people at an agency are now going to manage contracts that large. That doesn’t make sense since the agency will no longer command this. Sure there may be some but no where near what it once was.

Well, it will be Department of State. Yes, they will hire additional people to manage these new contracts that will promote US security interests, as well as find new contractors to do the heavy lifting. I don't know how many people will be technically Fed employees vs. contractor employees.

I get that but the point is cost savings. So a lot of people will be out of a job no matter how you spin it. It’s not just 10k feds.

No. It isn't.

Then what is it? I’m following DOGE and they are sharing contracts being cut. Yes of course new ones will come but that’s not the point of this post. If people don’t have work then that is a problem for housing potentially.

To answer the OP: My neighbor at $150K over the last house that sold in this neighborhood. Just went on the market yesterday. I'll let you know how busy the open house is this weekend.

There are 4 million feds. You claimed half will be shed and you toss 9700 at me like it's proof of life of the plan.

LOL.

It's about power, control, and retaliation. Which yeah will wreck all of us and it won't just be DC. But it's not about cost savings as some kind of altruistic libertarian thing.

Good God you’re slow. USAID is the first agency to have a finalized RIF number. Others will be forthcoming, but the admin’s aggressive posture toward USAID (and pronouncements about how many staff it intends to slash at other agencies) doesn’t portend well for the federal workforce.

I’d love to be wrong. But every indication so far suggests I’m right. You’re either deluded, not on top of the news, or just plain dull.

40% of the DC metro economy is propped up by the federal government. If thousands of jobs are shed that will have a significant negative impact on the real estate market.

You guys can you please move this stuff to the politics forum. This is very clearly not a “real estate” thread.
