Who in the world would buy or sell a house in the DMV right now?

lol sure. You really do not understand what is happening. How many private sector jobs do you think the DMV has? The plan is to 1/2 the federal government workforce. Contractors(4 x as many as federal employees) are going to be reduced by 75-85%. Drive the Dulles access road and point out a big building that is not related to government contracting. Oh and defense contractors are on the block.

You, sir, are smoking crack. If you think the federal workforce will be cut in half in the next 4 years, you are a moron.

You’re obviously not paying attention. USAID is being cut from 10,000+ to ~300. Education is next.

So, the vast majority of those 10,000 were not in DC...most were not even in the US.

A different, controversial point, but the government will start funding international efforts once again which will require hiring people (both in and out of the government) to service those grants...with the plan to have the "right" people hired to service those grants.

You do realize they are going to do away with whole departments? Again you have the wrong mindset. This is about the destruction of the federal government and the deep state. The CIA and FBI are under the knife and the Republicans are full of praise for Trump attacking the deep state and lazy Feds. You think DOD is magically going to be spared?

Look at what they did to the commander of the Coast Guard. Sh#t canned her and evicted her from her housing. Why? It is to send a message to the military we are coming for you.

6.9 million contractor and 2.2 fed employees. By the end of the year it will be under a million contractors and a million Feds. You will have to have some connections to Trump or Musk to get a contract. A real connection where Trump or Musk personally gain from it.

Trump can cancel any contract for cause and stop payment. If you sue he will claw back funds, black list the company and delay, delay, delay any court date. The courts are backed up for years and the IGs are all Trump loyalists. You think contractors can stay in business for 2 years with no revenues? Oh and the contract is not going across the street, it has ended.

The D.C. region, which relies on the federal government for 40 percent of its economy, is likely to face the biggest hit from government-related job losses. But the rest of the country isn’t immune: Every five federal government jobs that are lost typically wipe away an additional two jobs nationwide, according to Terry Clower, director of the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University.

Yeah...I got it. But the plan is to now say give $300MM to a new contractor to say help build new SuperMax prisons in El Salvador or detention facilities in Guatemala for holding immigrants.

The money will go to a new NGO (likely with HQ in the DMV) that will buy materials and what not from US companies and have employees mostly based outside the US.

So less than 300 people at an agency are now going to manage contracts that large. That doesn’t make sense since the agency will no longer command this. Sure there may be some but no where near what it once was.

Well, it will be Department of State. Yes, they will hire additional people to manage these new contracts that will promote US security interests, as well as find new contractors to do the heavy lifting. I don't know how many people will be technically Fed employees vs. contractor employees.

I get that but the point is cost savings. So a lot of people will be out of a job no matter how you spin it. It’s not just 10k feds.

This is where I disagree with you. I don't think they care much about cost savings vs. replacing the workforce with "their people" and spending the money on the stuff they want to spend the money. They will still spend $40BN...some on things they actually spend it today like providing HIV treatment in Africa...most on stuff like the previous examples.

I’m just stating what my leaders have heard directly from Elon and the Doge team. This is what they’ve said and this is what we’ve heard from leadership.

Agree. Condos could take a hit. And those soul-less townhome developments that are way the hell out -- like Haymarket/Gainesville.

Okay but us contractors are getting laid off in droves. I expect in a few months people will be selling their homes.

I hope there are a lot in Arlington because we have very low inventory right now. We are following one house that is coming on the market next week. We already have a pre-inspection lined up for the earliest time possible and will submit an offer right after that with a shock clock. If we don't get that house, do you think we should wait until there are more layoffs?

We just bought a house last week. We discussed this, and decided not to wait. Could house prices come down significantly? They could. But we are living under our means and a house we really wanted was available and not at the top of our budget. And we weren't mortgaging a huge amount. If you are looking to mortgage a significant amount and looking for homes that are in the top range of what you can reasonably afford, then YMMV on that approach.

This is insightful. A new administration, no matter how loudly it screams "we are cutting the government!!!!" will continue to spend the money ... they will just spend it on different things due to shifting priorities.
