MAGA - describe when America was “Great”

They were except for a whole lot of acceptable sexism. I like that enough has changed that we now all cringe when interviewers ask inappropriate questions and that female celebrities usually call it out in the moment.

When people weren’t so easily offended and judgmental. When people had filters and knew when to keep their mouths shut. Pre social media and smart phones but a plain old cell phone for making calls is great. When criminals were locked up. When weed was illegal. When people followed social rules. When people seemed to get along. Despite all the DEI initiatives I feel a greater divide and more hate/distrust than ever before.

I think you’re describing pre-cable news.

I dont consider myself "maga" I just use common sense to answer your question op. You could have done the same.

These stupid threads baiting "MAGA" are purely to start fights. Anyone with common sense knows the answer to the question, whether they admit it or not.

+100 op knows exactly what they're doing they think they are doing their "part" as does most of the new threads in the politics section.

Gas was last at $2.15 a gallon in 2005. Now it is $3.50, which is an increase of 63%.

The median annual net pay was $24K in 2005. Now it is $45K, which is an increase of 87%.

So a gallon of gas has become less expensive since 2005 measured relative to net pay.

Your wrong but you know that. Do a little research you will see how not very long ago gas was $2.15 a gallon.

Do you think we are in trouble? I do.

No era is perfect including our own, but I’d rather my kids be living through the 90s like I did than the America of today.

Yes. And since the gop led house has nothing better to do than hold pointless performative hearings we’re not even considering solutions.

If Trump gets elected, it’ll be even worse. He’ll do his tax cuts and the deficit will explode. The only answer will be to cut social security and Medicare.

Which is what the gop has been angling for.

This is so disingenuous. Life is so much more expensive today than 5 years ago and no, my pay did not increase to match inflation.

But wouldn't the GOP say that's your fault for failing to haul yourself up by the bootstraps?

No. The GOP is fiscally liberal and socially conservative.

Anyone with common sense knows that what happens with many of these things above are not controlled by the POTUS. Other factors determine the price of gas. Economies also depend on many factors, some things take years to manifest. Trump was a disaster.

You don't get to talk about common sense when you clearly don't have any.

DP. Oh, please. Trump was blamed for every single thing that occurred during his administration - and you were probably first in line to blame him.

It was great when we had immigration restricted to the extreme and thus allowed assimilation and increased support for The New Deal.

More Immigration=less willing to support welfare programs. It’s been studied time and time again.

It’s no coincidence that we dealt with Nixon and Reagan AFTER the Hart-Cellar act.

Despite there being WWII.. immediately before and after (right when there was extreme immigration restrictions) that was when people were happiest and most prosperous.

If Harris and other Dems paired Trump style immigration restrictions and rhetoric with their economic policies, they wouldn’t have to worry about offending progressives and we’d never have had Trump gain the popularity he has right now. And the GOP would have nothing to run on.

The US really went down the toilet starting March 10, 2000 when NASDAQ started it’s plunge with dot com bubble popping leading into 9/11 in 2001 then financial crisis in 2008.

But in reality it first started down with the high interest rates and high gas prices of 1970s and early 1980s. The first cracks I say were hippies in the late 1960s.

America was truly great post WWII to around 1967. We also had a stretch from around 1985 to 1999 where things were decent.
