Where did you absolutely hate?

Slaughter Beach on the Delaware Bay.

The beach was littered with thousands of dead horse shoe crabs.

Reno. Empty casinos that were nasty and smelled of smoke.

Huh? This makes no sense. I never thought that about PR and have lived in numerous LATAM countries and speak Spanish.

They're Latin in name only. They tend to have bad attitudes (especially the women), relative to their counterparts in other LA countries. Though slightly better than PR, the same can be said about Panama. Both are good for people who want a more US like experience, but they are training wheels for Latin America.

PR and Panama are not mezito like El Salvador, Guatemala, etc so that is why to some they are seen as not really Latin. We should really just start using the word mezito instead of Hispanic because that is what really is meant. When someone says Latin or Hispanic they are not referring the someone who looks like Cecilia Cruz and is from Puerto Rico.

I am when I say it. I mean all the Cruzes Cecelia, Cameron and Ted. Latino isn’t a race it’s a cultural identity.

I’m from South America and enjoyed our trip to PR. The women have bad attitudes? Wtf does that mean?

I understand if someone doesn't like PR because it's small and not a lot of options. Or maybe because food is heavy and they don't like maduros, tostones or the plethora of foods made with plantains. But saying that it's not latino/hispanic enough? GTFOH. Who are they to judge? PPs are people from the Midwest or NE who think Latin America is 100% natives on pyramids. And hate on Panama for not being latino? Americans have odd, outdated stereotypes about Latin America, and are clearly taken aback when cities in the region are modern, international banking centers.

This.

Wouldn't go back:

OBX in the summer. Hot as hell and boring. Not enough to do and anything there is to do it's too hot. Hellacious drive to get there from DC area. Don't get it.

Madrid, Spain and Vienna, Austria. Just bland and uninspired cities without a lot of personality. Maybe I missed something.

You definitely missed something. I love Madrid (then again, I’ve been to many Spanish cities and loved all of them!)

Madrid was the low point of my trip to Spain. I far preferred Barcelona, Toledo, Segovia, Salamanca, etc. On the way home, we got stuck in Amsterdam overnight. I had more fun in half a day in Amsterdam doing innocuous things (canal boat tour, Van Gogh museum) than in a couple days in Madrid.

Madrid is a slow burn, grow on you kind of place. Of all the above cities mentioned I'd pick Madrid in a heartbeat for a 3 year assignment, but I can see why it doesn't knock your socks off for a few days.

Same. I have some friends in Madrid so I was able to check out the local scene which was really fun. I had some of the best nights of my life in Madrid on that trip. But I could see how it might not be fun without that local connection.

I’d got back to Ethiopia before chincoteague.

Why didn't you like Ethiopia?

It's just super boring. I lived in LA for 10 years and have either lived in or traveled to almost every country and Paraguay is definitely bottom 10%. Not that it's a tourist destination or anything, but for good reason.

NP. At first I thought you meant Los Angeles! The only countries in Latin America I haven’t visited are Paraguay and Venezuela. I’ve heard the people are friend and I’d think the Guarani culture would be interesting. In the days of so much tourism, it’s always nice to find a place without many visitors. What’s your favorite Latin country?

And I hated Uzbekistan although there was some really amazing historical sites. People were really rude (Soviet level service) and seemed to hate tourists (although they certainly were not overrun with tourists), very sexist, totally corrupt government. Got food poisoning, detained by police (looking for a bribe), and sexually assaulted in a crowded market place full of women who did absolutely nothing to help me. Oh and our flight out was cancelled so we had to extend our stay. It really made me resistant to going anywhere in Central Asia again and made me think differently about traveling generally and what I’m willing to tolerate.

And I love Mexico but agree Cancun is the worst.

Can’t really think of any other places that I hate.

Sounds like a really horrible time. It seems Uzbekistan is really taking off as a destination these days. How many years ago was your visit?

There is always someplace worthwhile in every place we visit, so lighten up and be a good traveler. I have been to most every place mentioned (except for some Africa locales). Cmon people…

C'mon, you! Let people have their opinions. Don't tell them they are traveling "wrong".
For many people travel is saved up for (money and time off work) and much researched and anticipated. When it's work, or locals make it unpleasant, or you feel scammed or on guard all the time, or just bored or turned off or grossed out... that's ok to have hated it and not want to do it again!

Dubai. Hot. Lots of traffic. Expensive. Skip Dubai and go to the Maldives if you want a beach resort.

Nope! I'm 45, constantly get mistaken for 35 - workout every day. Own my home outright as a single woman :-)

Meh. Not PP. also not poor or fat. But Miami is just plastic and fake. And overpriced AF. And there are better beaches.

+1000

Looking (real) good takes work. Anyone can buy plastic boobs, butt, and lips. And the beaches are trashy.
