Surprised at Claremont Mckenna

I applied and was accepted into CMC back in the 1990s. Parental pressure kept me on the east coast to go to an even "better' school but I was really interested in CMC mainly because of the fact it was in California. If it weren't for my parents I'm pretty sure I'd have said FU to the east coast and gone west. And suspect I'd have never come back, like so many California-bound college kids don't.

Anyway, life still turned out well so I can't complain too much!

CMC? It has better outcomes and resources than most of the good lacs. It’s a specialty college that does it’s specialty extremely well

Claremont McKenna has always been regarded as one of the top SLACs. It's just in California and the DCUM (emphasis on "DC" area) don't discuss such schools much.

Is it? I feel like the LAC quality drops fast after Bowdoin and Middlebury. Would never send my kids to Hamilton or Colby or...Claremont Mckenna. Sure, they're ranked well, but there's no advantage to paying for it over UMD.

I’m a NP and haven’t read the entire thread. I chose CMC 20 years ago over a bunch of east coast schools that everyone has head of (Dartmouth, Penn, Amherst, Swarthmore) as well as Pomona. I ended up in law school on the east coast and live here now, and sometimes wish I had gone to a school more people had heard of and with more alumni. I have never wished for a different college experience though — it was a phenomenal place to be a student and I couldn’t have asked for a better combo of campus life and academics.

Weird take. I am not a CMC booster but I have graduated from one of the Claremont Colleges and your take is fully ignorant. The differences between CMC and Bowdoin are negligible. At that point, it's about fit, what you want to study and where you want to end up.

Wondering if anyone had updates on integrated sciences program. DS is really interested and the faculty CMC has brought on are very strong, even for a top liberal arts college.
