Wash Post—new editor from WSJ!?

They are getting their butts handdd to them by Politico because the journalists and editors are only motivated to do hard hitting pieces about the new management team. No one even expects that they would ever publish an important and newsworthy story like this and they should reflect on that.

It’s not just Politico. WSJ just published a 3 part series about a right wing and well connected law professor at GMU’s Scalia Law School and former FTC Commissioner with close ties to Facebook and Google being a sexual predator. Not even partisan bias should have prevented the Post from reporting that story and yet they didn’t. It’s a DC politics story and they missed it. Nor could I imagine that they would have covered it better than WSJ. Just read the quality and depth of reporting.

Even more garbage coming out in the guy. What a disgraceful hire.

Did they not do a background check on this guy?

You can't tell me Bezos made the direct decision to hire him, interviewed the candidates, etc. Who pushed this guy onto Bezos?

Just putting this here to show things do need to change at the Post: https://freebeacon.com/media/washington-post-foreign-desk-accused-of-pro-hamas-bias-teems-with-al-jazeera-veterans/

This is not really related to the business-side changes the new publisher is pushing, though. (Also, I'm pro-Israel, but I don't think it's automatically disqualifying for journalists to have worked for Al Jazeera.)

Do Washington Post journalists hire themselves or does management hire them?

There is no dispute that Al Jazeera is not independent or free of political interference. Journalists have quit because of this.

Hiring Al Jazeera journalists who were trained and happy to work in that environment should be as much as scarlet letter as working at the NY Post.

The top business-side managers (and even the top newsroom managers) would not have been particularly involved in hiring low-level editors or reporters, and at any rate, the publisher has specifically said his whole plan is NOT to impose new editorial directions that would or would not have anything to do with, say, coverage of the war in Gaza.

What exactly does leadership mean to you?

People have been complaining in this thread about the Post being too woke or whatever, but that's not at all what the new publisher says he's trying to change. You really think the publisher cares whether low-level newsroom employees used to work at Al Jazeera? He's got bigger problems to worry about.

If he has any interest in re-establishing credibility and recapturing the readership that abandoned the Post recently, he should indeed care that the daylight between the Washington Post and Al Jazeera is diminishing.

Also the daylight between the Post and The Onion. Not so much left.
