2024 Lottery Results

SWWFS is slightly easier from a commute perspective, though not necessarily enough to make a difference, especially with the van service from our neighborhood to Sela.
A few questions for the hive mind:

I love Sela, our child loves Sela, and it has been fantastic in generally every way. The only reason we are (considering) leaving is to secure a middle school feeder pattern. I would regret leaving though

OP here...this is great to hear - thanks! we're definitely leaning in this direction (with the same feeder concern - middle school feels VERY far away right now, so: just hoping there's movement on that by then!)

Our youngest just matched at Sela. And we will enroll. If she happens to get off the waitlist where her sibling attends, we will. If not, we are excited to have her at Sela (and knowing the faculty, warmth, etc that school provides for our young children).

OP here - thank you! this is very reassuring...

Did you lottery and match somewhere else? Where?

Curious to know (if you’ll tell) what school you’d leave Sela for.

Congrats, that must feel great! Glad you are happy and know where your kid will be.

Thank you for not discussing it with other parents. It's a hard day for many.

Yep. My fourth-grade kid is being relentlessly bullied (according to the school, targeted for no clear reason, kid just seems to be the accepted bullying target for everyone having a bad day) at our Deal feeder. We applied for both Latins (knowing it was a long shot, but the culture/curriculum would have been beyond perfect for our kid - smart, into history and debate, very prosocial, not particularly excited about STEM), every elementary near-ish us, and BASIS. Based on our waitlist numbers we got a lottery number at the absolute bottom of the barrel. Not really sure what to do now, since private school and moving aren’t options for us. Hoping we don’t have to fight with the school/OSSE to try to get a transfer for fifth.

Thoughts about the following for 1st+?

-Marie Reed - Dual (English Dominant: Offered
-Stokes Spanish: #2
-Oyster: #9
-Bancroft: #8

You got an offer for Marie Reed dual language? Take it. That school is awesome (have friends there who switched from another dual language program and have been thrilled, also the school has a great swimming program which is a wonderful bonus).

I’ve heard good things, but didn’t know about the swimming. That’s great. Stokes has been #1 on our list for the past four years, although I’m not sure if we could get in at 1st grade even being second on the waitlist.

My kid switched to Marie Reed DL from another DL school and we cannot say enough good things about it. So nurturing and meets kids on all levels and it’s a fantastic, cohesive parent/teacher/admin community. Academically, they brought my child up 2 grade levels after a lackadaisical pandemic/charter experience. Socially and emotionally they saw my child and knew how to give her what she needed. Plus they do a great job with the arts, field trips, etc. Congratulations!

That's wonderful to hear! One of the primary reasons we decided to try the lottery this year was the lack of cohesion among parents, teachers, and administrators. I've been wondering if this is a shared challenge among dual language-schools or more specific to MV.

Matched at Stevens ELC

Already at Amidon would we have a chance at SWW or MR realistically?

Following, since my DC is #11 for PK-4 at SWW.

The not Latin waitlists should move some. Unlikely 34 2nd street but you are presumably in at Cooper? Go ahead and talk about it. My child has zero chance at either WL school but I very much for my own planning want to know who at our school is leaving.

Yes. I was a poster above. We matched at Key, and plan to enroll unless we get in a waitlist school of

Shepherd (WL # 7)
Lafayette (WL # 4)
Mann (WL # 1)
Murch (WL # 3)
Janney (WL # 3)

Which are really just ordered in terms of commute. All wonderful schools.

We're EOTP, zoned for Wells (fine) and Coolidge (currently not fine). I'd rather enroll in a good feeder now then face getting shut out in 5th and 6th and having to move (if we could even afford it). If we could be assured Deal/Basis/Latin/Hardy, then we'd stay at Sela through 5th.

Oh man, crossing fingers you get Shepherd because the commute to Key seems like it would be ROUGH.

Thanks for answering. Poor Sela (among others) who lose families (like us as well) to plan for the feeder.

Hard to say no to Key as well as any of those schools. You may have some real choices to make. Low waitlist for wand one.

What grade?

#45 on the waitlist at Yu Ying - any shot? We are willing to wait till September to get a spot, but not sure if that's even realistic.

I saw. 7th. No chance at any.

Maybe Cooper… They would still backfill if anyone moves. I haven’t heard of current 6th graders leaving though.
