You're the one ranting and raving. Blowhard, indeed. |
Schools there were open by April 2021. Some earlier. https://www.chalkbeat.org/chicago/2021/4/28/22408753/one-in-five-chicago-high-school-students-absent-in-first-week-of-reopening/ |
DP. Still waiting to hear your proposal to deal with learning gaps. |
Private schools should close down for two years, same as public ones did. That's the best way to close the gap. |
So you have no real proposals? |
Schools were not fully open. There were a lot of restrictions, spacing, pods, etc. High schools opened much later. And the teachers weren't able to push for vaccines for children they way they wanted. They were not back in person, full time, until fall 2021, unlike many other schools. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/ct-chicago-public-schools-first-day-2021-20210830-yry6hxacjzhkzg3dcf7uw24jzi-story.html |
“Knew” in this context means “knew” to a reasonable degree of confidence. I would think that anyone who is old enough to be a parent is old enough to have discovered that there are no certainties in life. |
Dump the school boards and start over. Back to the drawing board. The current people in place who created the problems aren't going to be the ones to fix the mess they created. |
School boards have already turned over all over the country since 2020. What is it that you want the school boards to do? |
But schools were open - even “fully” - before vaccines were available for kids. They weren’t “waiting” on kid vaccines. |
Revamp the curriculum to identify gaps, focus on missing and weak skills, get rid of specials until gaps are closed, more pullouts for those most at risk and on and on. What are your ideas? |
+1 Also, reduce the control teacher unions have. And pass massive voucher programs. Let parents make education decisions, instead of teacher unions. |
The mess exists in school districts that were closed for a year and a half and in districts that were largely open after the spring of 2020. |
You “knew” without substantial data to back it up. Other people were looking for actual data and/or CDC guidelines. Faulting people for being rational is ridiculous. |
So I guess you don't see any problems that need fixing. We'll just keep doing the same thing and get surprised at at the results? |
