Stop being hypocrites. None of you give two shits about the impact that school closures had on society or education in general. All you care about is how much it inconvenienced you. |
How long did they advocate for them to be closed? I disagree with 'never'. It was a novel virus and it made sense in the Spring of 2020. There were many unknowns and weren't there initial closures in all 50 states? No schools should have been closed in 2021. |
right? you would think the people who were most scared of covid that they accepted the school closures would be even MORE motivated to research whether they worked or not. Don’t they want to really know which mitigations work? |
As the vaccine became available, kids went back to the classroom. ![]() |
Disagree. No one can sensibly think our policy was successful. We threw away children for the marginal benefit of folks in powerful unions. |
Not true. Vaccines were available starting end of December 2020. My kids weren’t back in school “normally” until fall 2021. |
Agree never is too severe. For some schools a week or two in Spring of 2020, for others through the end of Spring 2020. With rare exceptions schools should have been in session in the Fall of 2020. |
Agree. And Democrats closed schools. You did this; own it. |
“Just two more weeks.” |
Ok. But they were back in school by Feb/Mar 2021. ![]() |
And vaccines weren’t easily available until Jan/Feb. |
Not true. Many families were concerned about in-person before vaccines. And schools were virtual in areas without powerful unions. |
In other countries kids were in school before vaccines were available. I live in Ontario and my kids were in school full time in the fall of 2020 (with masks). It was fine. American private school kids were also in school full time in the fall of 2020, as were kids in certain states. |
And many people couldn't get them until April/May 2021. |
NP. The fact stated by the PP you responded to remains: “No one can sensibly think our policy was successful.” You can quibble over little details. But the NYT, Sweden and other developed nations, (and that PP) are right. Closing schools was a terrible idea and wrongly decided. |
