| I told my staff once who did not tip and bragged maybe we should skip his Christmas bonus as that is a tip. He was not happy |
This. If I eat out 1-2 times a day time say 300, an extra $5 each time is minimum of $1500 and could be many thousands. For what? Standing there. |
I don’t even believe you but if true you win the shittiest manager award. Congrats jerk! |
| yes, do zero for carryouts or fast food places. No need for tip inflation. There is nothing new servers are adding than a couple of years back to get extra tips. The food prices, restaurant bills have gone up so have their tip portion if you keep some 15-18% as before. |
I am in UK these days and tips are standard 10-12.5%. Not sure when US went from 15 to 22%. |
WTF |
+1 This is the key point. Tips are based on a percentage, so keeping the same percentage as before with inflated menu prices means tips will still increase. No need to increase the tip percentage. It's like people are just fine throwing away money for no reason! |
I’d didn’t. But it’s been 20% for at least a decade. |
I did say it. I find it disgusting professional people who demand raises, big holiday bonuses, great medical coverage, paid holidays, vacation and sick days but they’re maid, Nanny, waiter, waitress god forbid they earn a living wage or basic benefits |
15 is terrible service, 20 average service and 22 good service. |
|
Just went out this weekend with the whole fam. There was 11 of us. They included a 20 automatic gratuity of 20 percent - 90 dollars. I paid the bill and added another 30.
That’s what nice people do. |
Just because someone says so, doesn't mean you need to. You can give more if deserved or less if not. |
|
Well, wages are between employer, employee and government. They can't shift the responsibility on customers. This culture needs to end.
|
Loving wage isn't a real thing. What you do is set a wage and if no one works for it you raise it. |
