Political Discussion
Probably explains why Republicans have only managed a majority of votes for President once (and barely) since 1988. |

Funny how these shootings are always on the political forum and not the health forum if it truly is a mental health issue.
Let's at least be honest that this is a politics issue that very clearly divides the two parties. And it seems like all of the parents out there voting for Republicans are just signing their children's death warrants. And are okay with it. |
I am involved in these activities. We need more people so that our politicians can hear us loud and clear. |

GOP... nothing concerning about this christmas card Also GOP "It's the decline in family values" This is what happens when you have a culture that worships guns and think it's ok because you hide behind your claims of God and religion. This is what happens when you have people on this thread knocking someone for being an athest, yet they're totally ok with posts like this representative showing off their guns. Disgusting. |
None of this is funny. Some problems have more than one cause - a concept that's difficult for some to understand. It's a mental health issue, it's a lack of gun control issue, it's the fact that a lay person has the ability to buy an assault weapon, it's an issue of not sufficient security in our schools, it's an issue of red flags being ignored or minimized. By the way, people with mental illness are more likely to be victim of violence than commit an act of violence. I guess moving this discussion from the political forum to the health forum will solve the problem. |
"Christian" is a useless definition. The group always seems to expand and retract as a matter of convenience. Trying to impose your moral values on others? Declare that a huge portion of Americans are Christian, these are Christian values, and therefore American values. A Christian shoots up a school? Well, either he wasn't a real Christian or Christianity was incidental to the action. A Muslim shoots up a school? Well, we all know how *they* are. I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump. I ran over and said: "Stop. Don't do it." "Why shouldn't I?" he asked. "Well, there's so much to live for!" "Like what?" "Are you religious?" He said: "Yes." I said: "Me too. Are you Christian or Buddhist?" "Christian." "Me too. Are you Catholic or Protestant?" "Protestant." "Me too. Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" "Baptist." "Wow. Me too. Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?" "Baptist Church of God." "Me too. Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God." "Me too. Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?" He said: "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915." I said: "Die, heretic scum," and pushed him off. |
They sometimes show up in different forums, but Jeff tends to move them here. |

"God" has nothing to do with this bizarre fixation on guns. It's a manmade problem and specifically an American one. Go ahead and show this to anyone from another country and they will think it is bizarre--on so many levels. The parents are extremists and if you think this is normal, then so are you. |
I am the OP and I posted this in the political forum because political action is what is needed. |

NP. Just saw this news and I am kinda shaken even though at this point I shouldn't be I guess.
My question is, how many shootings like this have to happen in conservative states like TX and TN before they finally ban guns? The Answer? Sadly...a LOT more blood. Until the children of 90% of gun rights activists are dead, nothing will change. It's a lot of blood, and it's very sad. But this is clear to me now. Uvalde changed nothing, and this poor little Christian school may change nothing. Too few dead. It sounds horrible and it IS horrible but what else am i supposed to think at this point? Gun violence in schools is like a regularly scheduled disaster at this point. |
PP, you forgot to include the last clause in PP's opening sentence: if it truly is a mental health issue. The PP didn't set it up as a binary, but to point out that Republicans often hide behind the mental health fig leaf (given that they refuse to fund those services, etc). |

If the slaughter of dozens of kindergartners at Sandy Hook didn't change anyone's mind, I really don't think anything will.
I mean even uvalde had law enforcement on the scene who refused to act because they were scared of the weapons. We keep saying our legal for anyone in this country to own. We have no universal health care for people with mental illness or depression or any other disease or illness that makes them feel like this is the only way out and a good solution. We have very few laws in place that make it difficult to get access to these deadly weapons even though I can't own a tank if I wanted one. Every law has its limits and restrictions, including freedom of speech. The second amendment did not always use to be interpreted this way. This is a fairly novel concept that has only been around for a few decades. Once the supreme Court moved to the right and reinterpreted the Constitution. |
