Lol apparently he doesn’t have more important things to do with his time because this is a stupid money grab. |
Agreed. They all look like damn fools, Fairfax included. Oh how the mighty have fallen… |
I’m a long time Arlington resident and APS parent and I do not know this family. However, I think it’s understandable that most will not immediately report someone. Do you think we should? We have Maryland license plates showing up frequently. I do think that several people in our area are committing either residency (school) fraud, or Arlington County property tax fraud, but there’s always the possibility of the military moving around between posts, and divorced parents and I’ve not reported any of these plates, because I don’t want to cause an innocent person any hassles. It is honestly the job of APS to verify residency and not fall for bullshit and fraud and enforce existing rules equally for all, and it’s the job of the county to look at the vehicles which are permanently parked at an Arlington address. They should invest in this instead of writing parking tickets because the vehicle tax fraud is worth so much more. However, if APS ends up shelling out for this case and this family indeed has been fraudulently enrolled here for over a decade with no repercussions, I’m rethinking my stance. |
When her kid is using aunts address, playing Arlington little league but mom had MD plates and complaining about being so tired from the drive to work…. Things that make you go hmmm. |

This article states this class is needed for him to "graduate to high school." Huh? That's BS. Nobody has to pass a French class to go on to high school. This family is misrepresenting so much. Reading APS' initial statements - proud of the student for speaking up, yadda yadda yadda - makes me ill. APS should have gotten the facts before making public statements supportively "acknowledging" this student's supposed feelings. |
APS has had a policy allowing children of parents who work in Arlington to attend APS schools. I thought this was for employees of APS, though. Regardless, I believe this policy was recently discontinued; but those who are already in the system are grandfathered and will not be forced out. I do know for a fact, and so does APS, that there are non-residents attending our schools "illegally" so to speak. APS is trying to identify these students and get them out. Still, some non-residents may legitimately be permitted to attend. |
Regarding the residency issues only: It’s possible the family are long time Arlingtonians, but were priced out in recent years. So many who grew up here have had to move elsewhere due to the rising cost of housing. As long as the primary residence was in Arlington and with a relative they should be okay. It doesn’t matter what tags were on the car. |
It’s a private preschool, not APS. |
Yes this was the policy and may still be for some employees. |
Irrelevant to this situation. |
I’m confused. How would prior residency in Arlington make a student eligible to be a current student? If you move, you’re required to notify APS. It’s possible they’ll let a student finish out the quarter, but just remain enrolled at APS indefinitely? You can’t, alternatively, just list the address of a relative who resides in Arlington and claim you live there if it’s not true. That’s fraud. Did I misunderstand your comment? |
This policy was specifically for APS staff only. |
Oh good Christ. Stop trying to bend yourself into white liberal guilt pretzels. This family is very well known because they run CDC (a large daycare in Clarendon). And have for at least 14 years. So many, many Arlington families know them. They live in Maryland, always have. And this latest bit of trying to shake more money out of the system is completely unsurprising. |
Yep. All this. |
