Well, it's a french class. So, maybe he was? More likely, he's the only African American/Black kid and any other students of color are Latino or something other than Black.

Mom wants to make it look like he's the only minority in the class. Turns out virtually every person involved in this story is a person of color. The students, the teacher, the parents, the principal, the superintendent, etc....

which is also why it is gross that the Arlington NAACP is taking her side. This is why I don't trust anything they ever say on behalf of AA issues in Arlington.

It’s beyond embarrassing the NAACP jumped on this. Advocating for crooks and extortion. All at the expense of actual POC kids who reside in Arlington.

+100!

These people are out of their cotton pickin' minds

I don’t know if I feel bad for the kid. I think he i s old enough to say yeah I deserve a payday. He grew up with parent like this and as an adult it’s unfortunate but there is a chance he will model the same behavior as an adult.

This is truly outrageous. It wasn’t a cotton picking game (it was a silly, meaningless game in which all kids were using cotton balls). $10 million us insane. No jury would ever go for this and award damages. APS better not settle for a penny!

The Virginia school teacher shot by a student is suing for $40 million (totally justifiable) and these people are out here claiming $10 million for this nonsense. SMH…

These frivolous claims have been really bothering me... I think partly because I know this family and have felt chagrined for their many years of using APS schools and Parks and Rec offerings, etc., while living in MD. I do feel bad for the kids and know it isn't their fault. Mostly though, I hate that there are real issues of inequity in Arlington and this family chooses to highlight the kind of opportunistic victimhood that will be used to undermine legitimate claims of racism and divert our attention from the real problems facing our students.

how do you know this?

Because white pages has her in Falls Church and Greenbelt. Beyoytch is too dumb to have anticipated this. I love it.

Can confirm that mom drives a car with Maryland plates, or at least did last year when my kid attended school with one of her kids.

I’m so sick of this. Residency fraud *and* APS educates her kids *and* will pay her, a Maryland resident 10 million?

Ever heard of dual citizenship? Just she drives a car with Maryland tags doesn’t mean she lives in Maryland. Could be a work vehicle or the car could be owned by someone else. Why are we assuming the woman is a criminal.

More racist stereotyping?

How do so many of you know this family, know they live in MD, and have not reported them? You only care about the fraud they are committing NOW even though you've known about it this whole time??

Justin Fairfax wouldn’t have taken the case if it was frivolous. I know him personally and he has more important things to do with his time.

Maybe because blackmail is a crime?

Yeah, I bet this woman lived in Arlington long before everyone of these posters who are claiming she isn’t a resident. The privilege is just disgusting.

Or… the reality of it all. I’m an APS teacher. We have plenty of kids here that don’t live here. If they’re here to get a good, safe education, I can turn a blind eye.

However, I’ve seen some of those kids cause trouble and exhaust our resources. Always D.C. or PG. When they don’t actually live here, no thanks.

This kid seems fine, but his mom is a nut job. I feel sorry for him. Maybe the settlement is that we don’t get our money back on his education. And then she enrolls him at his neighborhood school.

I'm one of the PPs and I wasn't stereotyping but sharing what I know about her based on personal knowledge deeper than seeing her MD tags. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Many of us got to know her and her family members over the years through her (and her family members' work.

She and her family work at a popular daycare in Clarendon. Many APS families go there. If you’ve been there anytime in the last 15 years, you know this family.
