Long time Arlingtonians? Seriously? That’s not how this works. You don’t get lifetime legacy with a school system, because you used to live there. I’ve been priced out of Manhattan, lol. Anyways, it sounds like they’ve not lived in Arlington… but if she did it would be vehicle property tax fraud instead. So it matters. Can’t have it both ways. |
Would be a terrible shame if people starting showing up with signs at their business letting their clients know what kind of people they are….. |
Yeah. Except as noted above, good luck with your professional or personal life afterward. Publicly calling out an idiot racist Karen makes you a hero. Publicly calling out a grifting black woman makes you an irredeemable racist. |
Dual citizenship is a nationality concept. Residency is about where you live and sleep at night. People can only be residents of one state at a time for school enrollment purposes. Signed, a dual citizen resident of Alexandria, VA |
I wasn’t her creation. The school sanctioned an event forcing her child to pick cotton. She isn’t in charge of anything at the school so why do you want to make mom the bad guy here? |
Plenty of people in the United States have established residency in two states and I am willing to bet that this mom is a resident of Arlington “for school enrollment purposes”. If she wasn’t, her kid wouldn’t be in school there. |
If the shoe fits……. |
LOL, Hi Keisha! Hope you’re doing well. |
Parents are required to provide the address of their primary residence, right? It’s where you actually live; the place you go home to at night. They will have listed an address on the forms, which includes an attestation about the info being true. If the address provided isn’t where they actually live, that’s the end of the conversation. It’s residency fraud to lie. Or maybe they’ve honestly listed an Arlington residence where they live. I have no idea. I’m only commenting because it’s outrageous for people to suggest that someone who no longer lives in Arlington can send their kids to school here as long as they used to live here. If that’s what people are doing, wake up APS. The circumstance where MD plates show up at drop off at our school appeared to be legit involved split custody arrangements. |
This is not a thing. You can only establish residency in one place for school purposes and that the place you actually live. Otherwise it’s fraud and I hope they turn around and prove that’s what has happened here and charge her for back tuition rather than pay out a settlement for a bogus accusation of racism. |
You can only establish residency in one place for pretty much any purpose--voting, income tax, in-state tuition, etc. Even if you live in FLorida half the year, each state wants to know which state is the one you officially live in, and it usually supposed to be the one you spend 51% or more of your time living in. |
FOR THE LOVE. This could not be farther from the truth. There was no "sanctioning" of any event "forcing" a child to "pick cotton". Enough of this outrageous stupidity. I'd say turn your Fox News back on and busy yourself with that, but, sadly this is a different kind of dumb. |
Yes, this, too. I believe there have been some pretty high profile cases of people committing tax and voting fraud by claiming to live in one state while actually living in another. |
I feel so bad for this kid. His mom made him a pawn and now he’s left to suffer. |
So, anyone who has ever lived in Arlington but gets priced out should get to keep their kids in APS? Even if they didn't have kids before being priced out and moving elsewhere. Ok. If their actual primary residence is Arlington, fine about the plates - but those plates should then be reported to the County for appropriate enforcement of car registration laws and property tax liability. If you live in Arlington and have a car, that car needs to have Virginia plates - unless you're a diplomat. |
