That is massive and dominant in research especially when you add in auxiliary member JHU. Jeez so many over a billion a year 4 in the west. 4 in the Midwest 3 in the East. 4 with Hopkins |

Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren reportedly stated during Bryant Gumbel's HBO show RealSports that the Big Ten will likely expand to 20 teams "perpetual growth".
Also, the Big Ten Commissioner indicated that the Big Ten Conference would like to pay players. (Probably means doing away with NCAA oversight). |

BC is not a Big Ten school on any metric.
The likely expansion targets (In no order other than ND): Notre Dame U-Washington U-Colorado Stanford U-Oregon UVA UNC UFlorida |
Great list ! However, I do not understand why the University of Florida would leave the SEC. Eventually the SEC will renegotiate the broadcast rights and pay schools in line with the Big Ten so I doubt that money would be the reason. Can anyone help me to understand why Florida is a reasonable Big Ten target ? |

Notre Dame plays Ohio State on September 3, 2022--2 weeks from today. #2 ranked Ohio State is a 14 point favorite over #5 ranked Notre Dame.
If NBC can stretch negotiations out until after this game, NBC might get some negotiating leverage if Notre Dame loses by significantly more than 14 points. (For example: 48 to 14) That would make Notre Dame less of an attraction for most of the season. If this occurs, then Notre Dame may give serious consideration to joining the Big Ten. |
BC would bring the Big Ten show to the middle of the entire New England region and that is the media strategy. Same as Stanford in San Fran NorCal. Texas will flip to the Big Ten Washington brings Pacific NW and borders highly populated areas of Canada will be invited. Florida will be a later add. Florida is too snooty for the SEC and brings value for member schools. Colorado brings the mountain west with no in state competition. Unc and Uva and Oregon are not valuable enough. |
| Looks like UMD gets $75 mill now and $100 mill per year starting 2024. |
+1 |
The Big Ten has outmaneuvered the SEC in nationwide media chess and will have higher payouts per school than the SEC. It also has a higher academic profile and a research centered philosophy. Florida sees itself more academic than most of the SEC so it gets a boost in both areas. |

An issue regarding Big Ten expansion out West could involve state government interference. The California Board of Regents was not consulted about UCLA's move and has expressed concern about Berkeley beiing left behind.
State politicians in Washington state and in Oregon have expressed concern about Wash State University & Oregon State University being left behind as well. Arizona & ASU will move as a package deal. Private universities like Stanford & Notre Dame do not have to answer to state politicians. Which are the best private schools other than Notre Dame & Stanford which should receive Big Ten consideration ? Boston College ? Duke University ? |
|
Maybe the Univ. of Miami ?
Vanderbilt ? States probably would accept splitting up the two main schools between the SEC and the Big Ten. Wishful thinking would bring the Univ. of Texas to the Big Ten while Texas A&M remains in the SEC. Actually, if Texas has paired with Texas A&M rather than with Oklahoma, The two Texas schools probably would have been welcomed with open arms to the Big Ten. Univ. of Florida & FSU. |
