Why does Sidwell seem so hypocritical?

What happened? Can’t cram for it anymore?! Oh, oopsies. You’ll be fine. Just stop already.

+1. If you are not a recruited athlete, forget about getting into HYPS from Sidwell. Those seats are taken

That isn't true in general and also not so far with respect to the class of 2022.

Curious though, were the rest mostly legacies and URM so far? (note - I am not the above PP. this is a genuine question)

No, they weren't. Plenty of unhooked kids were accepted into their ED choices despite the unfounded narrative to the contrary.

How deep and wide are the CCO relationships? Or do they only push what they know and let the chips fall?

You understand that the days of a college guidance counselor picking up the phone and horsetrading a kid into a school are long since dead, right? Like, that just doesn't happen at all anymore.

It happens less frequently than it used to. But it is not true that it doesn’t happen at all. And the Sidwell counselors’ collective inexperience at the school is definitely a disadvantage.

They absolutely get a call asking them to force rank who applied to what department. Ask me how we know. Anyhow, worked out ok but not first choice but we were splicing hairs at that point. Top 5 student. Asked to only apply to three total colleges.

First, you know that they rank applicants to each school because it was reported in the news based on the Adebayo lawsuit. Second, I find it implausible that you would be advised to apply to only 3 colleges.

The CCO ranks students for each school? Like if 10 kids apply to Harvard, there is a list of No. 1 to No. 10?

If you are actually a parent, you realize that you can ask them directly? If you are not a parent, I’m not sure why you are interested.

The reality is that the PPPs here are probably lying about their association with the school. There was a lawsuit and some things got made public, which everyone can read about. The people who worked at the school then have since moved on and if you want to know if they are continuing the qualitative rankings in the secondary school report, you can just ask them.

I have zero relationship to the schools and what I see is someone pretending to be a part of Sidwell based on misrepresentation of outdated publicly available information. And they are doing this because they want to disparage a school they are not associated with? It honestly makes zero sense.

Not for my 2022 kid and kid’s friend group!

Of course they had the wisdom to skip the whole “Brown or bust!” mentality. You could see this outcome as an outsider just by reading speeches and essays from the last few years. Columbia too.

Just because it worked out for you and a handful of friends doesn’t mean it’s working out for other top kids or average kids in the class. So far only a select few of unhooked smart kids have been accepted. The rest are connected or athletes recruited to SLACS.

Cool story but those kids had no chance at an Ivy.

I’m not pretending to be part of a school community that I am not part of. Nor am I asking questions about said community anonymously on a message board. So no, I am actually not “interested”. If I was interested had a reasonable reason to be interested, I would do what normal people do and email the school and ask them.

My kids friend group has a number of Ivy admits who were totally unhooked.

Ahh yes, like swallows to Capistrano, the Sidwell bashing threads appear every year during admissions season. Good luck to all those applying to schools. Take all the anonymous “advice” with a healthy dose of skepticism, because as any longtime DCUM reader knows, people with unhealthy agendas will start bashing this time every year.

It's not advice that is given on this thread. It's showing people that you shouldnt send your kid to Big 3 schools thinking it's a leg up in college admissions.

To be fair, they appear once a month minimum.

By a very large and very diverse group of people with no political agendas or axes to grind. I know.

Guano everywhere just no substance

I am particularly partial to one of the very large group
of anti-Sidwell OPs who all use the same awkward phrasing by pure accident. She uses word bleating, suggesting a cozy relationship with large domestic animals where she’s from. Very pastoral very quaint like the America that is great again.
