Why does Sidwell seem so hypocritical?

They have been cancelling meets and games for MS but then they send their US girls' bball team out to Minnesota? When did they become Spire Academy? What happened to equity? I hate that they are all Quaker until the NBA or ESPN comes calling. So hypocritical. And yes, I WENT TO SIDWELL.

It’s not the only DC school suddenly allowing risky events of upper management wants it. This fall, my private won’t allow family picnics on campus, but had a seated indoor dinner fundraising event!

So tired of the Radical nonsense.

They have the number one girls basketball team in the country. It's awesome. Don't be jealous!

OP - not sure this is a Sidwell thing. It's more that HS sucks unequal resources/attention in k-12 schools. One big reason why families choose K-8 is that the MS gets attention and is not secondary to the Upper School. Our child is in SFS Upper School and had not meets/games cancelled this year. (although attendance restricted). So it's not just the women's basketball team and I don't think this participation was "just" because it was a high profile, it's HS vs MS.

This does seem illogical. You should email the school and ask why this is happening

maybe this is happening because its a calculated risk in a once in a blue moon situation vs regular old games in MS.

and the girls team practiced over the holidays even htough other teams could not

i am an alum and a parent, deeply disturbed by how the school is now trying to become an athletics powerhouse. Donors $$s and college admissions seem to be the motivation. Meanwhile there are no full time art teachers and kids have to choose either CS or Art because the schedules conflict and both are both basically afterthoughts. The school has really lost its way, very sad to see. I mean WTF ramping up the football program and hiring a big name coach.

Yes, let's all praise recruitment! *eyeroll*

My kid can't travel for an academic related pursuit but the basketball team can?

OP et al — do you ever get tired of being so insufferable? Why do we all have to be subject to your vituperative whining week after week? Is there an ETA on when you meet your dignity and get over perceived slights from school that are fueling this massively stretched nonsense you keep spinning? Just go away. Literally no one else cares or likes what you have to say.

Disagree about MS vs HS. The basketball program has been operating under a different set of rules throughout covid and appears to have a very different budget too.

+1 This. Everyone at Sidwell is proud and supportive of the girls basketball team.

The OP cannot possibly have a connection with Sidwell to be so sour.
