| Sounds indefensible to me. |
LOL whut?
|
I hereby sentence SFS to 100 years of removal from consideration as a “Big 3” for the crime of being awesome at basketball. |
Indeed, the combination of academic and athletic excellence is disturbing. It’s disturbingly awesome. |
| It’s totally hypocritical OP. If you read the writings of George Fox he’s quite clear that the inward light doesn’t shine on people who good at basketball or people support anyone who is good at basketball. Why it’s almost a sin really. |
| Sidwell has always recruited for sports. Not a surprise really. |
| I don't see the issue...not into sports so I don't understand. They want to go only to a big game or a game that would benefit their students? I know our private has strict covid rules for athletes. |
|
Look, we are a Sidwell family but we always joke that the school is Quaker when it is convenient and otherwise the administration acts decidedly not Quaker.
It is what it is. Our kids are getting a good education. GDS, etc., are also hypocritical in many ways. |
It's not "trying" to become a powerhouse. The boys basketball team is as it has been for years. The girls team has a new coach after decades of the old one. Coaching matters. Talent matters. The AD is fantastic and gets the ability for talented kids who work hard in the classroom and with their sport. He has hired coaches who actually care, and teach their crafts through both Middle and Upper School. As a result, ALL of the sports are doing better. And to the OP, the issue is MS versus US. It is also likely that other MS doesn't want the kids playing other schools and SFS is a casualty of that. |
They have to choose between CS and Art because of the requirements and the way the schedules work. It has nothing to do with money. And to the art teachers, most of them are professional, full time artists who want the flexibility and stability to practice what they teach, while also teaching. |
How is it hypocritical to want kids with different talents to excel? |
Oh look, it's the DCUM Sidwell post police, back to making personal attacks on posters and purporting to speak for the entire community. Go away. |
Totally agree. Why do people trash their schools? Really stupid. |
Just a thought: Maybe they believe it's the best and/or only way to start a discussion about a topic that they believe is important? And they understand that this message board is a forum for discussion about topics related to independent schools? Why do people spend their time reading and commenting on message board posts that they think are really stupid? |
| if this were really an issue, bring it up at a parent coffee. DCUM is the worst place to do it. |
